I just installed a new DVD writer (Samsung TS-H552U) and the problem I'm having is I can't figure out how to write files with it. I used Nero to write a DVD game and that worked, but now I just want to save some files with it and there is no way for me to "send" the files to this drive to be written. I also can't even open it. It acts like a floppy drive telling me to "please insert a disk", or if I have a blank DVD-R disk in it already, I can't open the freaking thing! It says "error E:/is not accessable. Incorrect Function." !??? Wus the deal with this? Either way I can't access the drive, can't open it. It plays DVD's fine, though.
please help, at wits end

frank
thanks

I tried updating the firmware on my new DVD writer. I found an update, installed it, rebooted and no difference. Then I decided to look for a firmware update for my CD writer too, since I was doing these updates. When I installed the update on the CD writer and rebooted, I was then unable to access the CD writer, but I could now access the DVD writer. However, when I tried to copy a file to the DVD writer, windows tells me it's encountering a problem copying the file to the drive. It's not working.

So now, I'm able to access the dvd writer. I'm able to right-click on it and select "open" and it opens, without the error message, which I was getting before the updates, but am now getting that message on the CD-writer instead.

I can open the CD- writer if I have a non-blank disc in the drive. If it's blank or the drive is empty, I can't open it. So I can no longer copy files there and write them, and cannot copy files to the DVD drive either, even though I can open it.

So my CD drive tells me "D:/ is not accessable incorrect function" if I try and double-click on it with a blank cd in the tray; or when there is no cd in the tray, it tells me "please insert disc" if I double-click on it. If the disc has something on it, then it opens when I double-click on it.

My DVD drive was acting like this until I updated the firmware for both drives. Now it behaves normally, except I cannot copy files to it. So the problem switched drives, except for the copy function which I lost altogether.

I have several writing programs I've always used. I have Nero, alcohol, ISO programs, VCD Easy...etc.

I havn't tried activating either in BIOS. Both say they are "working properly" in their respective properties windows.

tried refresh. same deal,

thanks, frank

Sorry. I missed that. I was really tired. So should I now go ask in the correct forum, or do I need a moderator to move the post for me?

I
