the_ogs, going to take connectors off duff hd, cdrom or whatever. i think you can buy 40 pin males for cables, i've seen 34 pin so i think there is 40 pin. remember it is not just 40 but 80 because of both ends. i've worked on alot smaller spacings than that on motherboards.

Yes, for our regular viewers let me say:
Even though the cables we call 80pin have 80 'ribbons' there are still only 40pins. Each connector is simply doubled with a ground, to enhance signal integrity and reduce crosstalk.
So to connect two males together, back-to-back, you'd make 40 connections = 80 solders = at least one burning ;)
