i realized what u meant but obtaining a copy of this dvd would b hard since its a box set. i huess i have to find a capture card huh?

Just my two cents as I'm a newbie...but I just had a similar issue. What I ended up doing was to reauthor using dvdshrink. Not sure if the damage on the disk was the menus or extras but I just copied the movie itself and it worked fine. looks like the disc had a major flaw right on the outer edge.

Also, if the disc isn't encrypted could you just copy the files (audio and videots folders) off the dvd onto your hard drive?
