Thanks Creaky.....I will try DVD Decrypter again on that movie this weekend and assuming it does the same thing it has been doing, I will save the log and post it here on monday. Anything in it that I should delete from the post?

has anyone had problems backing up the rerelease of "animal house"? i've used DVD Shrink and it says there is a copy protection on, so i tried it with DVD Decrypter and it gets about 48% in and it goes into a constant retry...any help would be appreciated...thanks

@evnflow - try something like (free) DVD43 in the background. But do some searching at the top in the search box. that film is older thn an old thing so no funny protections. it sounds like you haven't 'region-freed' your drive(s)

Could also just be a scratch or dirty disc.

Either way try that and do some searching before posting, it's all here

Those errors are most likely due to a bad original disc, i.e.dirty, smudged, scratched, imperfections, etc, etc, etc. Try to clean or use a different original disc.

Creaky...here is my long awaited DVD Decrypter log file. I am suspecting that the original disc is defective but take a look and see if you can find any other issues. This Manchurian Candidate is the only disc that I have been unable to back up...all my other ones go all the way thru with DVD Decrypter.

Here is the logfile, I aborted it when it got to about 100 retries and read failures:

Brand new, no visible blemishes and seems to play correctly on standalone dvd player.....I think it is a bad disc too.

Well here is a new twist....I just successfully backed up my Manchurian Candidate from the same original disc I was having the problem with. Using DVD43 in the background as I alway do, I tried using DVD Decrypter again but this time instead of selecting all files, I selected Main Movie and IFO's.....it did it's thing without a hitch (the main movie is the VTS 7 that was hanging on reads). I then tried to burn this with Nero Recode 2 and Recode wouldn't use the file....it couldn't find a file it wanted. Soooooo.....I got a new idea and ran DVD Decrypter again on the disc this time with all files selected but I didn't delete the first time folder or contents and I didn't let it overwrite any of the previous files. Then I went to Recode again and was able to burn it without any problems........weird but I will take it.
