I was able to copy the game to a DVD using Woobong's method in this thread. But I still wondered why my CD version wouldn't work, so I tried it again using Burn.NOW and made another coaster. So I tried again with Nero using smart start and burned the game at 8x on a CD-R and it did play correctly but it seemed like my PS2 was making some strange noises, I think the game was spinning faster than normal also. I am burning it again to CD right now using 4x. I'll post results.

Hi All!
I just wanna share what experience I had backing up my Lego Star Wars, I've tried all the methods in this thread, came up with about 4 cd coasters and a dvd coaster. But I finally managed to get it working properly on a CD. My PS2 is a PS2 with Messiah2 V2.0. Right now to the nitty gritty:
Things you need: ISO Buster (find a link in this web-site if you haven't got it, as this is how I got mine) Nero 6 and a DVD / CD writer
1. Create a folder where you know where to find it e.g. desktop
2. Using ISO Buster located your Lego Star Wars in the drive you put it in. On the left hand side you will get many icons but all you really need to bother with is the CD Icon Now right click on the icon and select Extract CD Image - Raw (*.bin, *.iso) they should be highlighted in bold for you anyway!
3. then click save in thet folder you created
4. after it has finished you should have a cue and a bin file. Open up Nero. forget the new compilation, select the recorder tab - burn image.. find your created folder and there'll be one CD icon open it.
5. Now put a blank CD in your DVD / CD burner.
6. Just in case I burnt the file at my lowest speed which was 4x. Quote: I haven't tried it any higher because my first one worked but let people know if it does work at a higher speed
then click BURN.
Thats it! and it worked for me, and I think it'll work to all CD based games for the PS2, not sure about PC games though. maybe there's a thread about backing-up DVD / CD based games for the PC.

SO far, I have 3 coasters, so I'm now going to try converting it to a DVD. By the way, the cd's I've made all start out like they'll work but gets to "A long time ago...", then goes black. I'm using Swap Magic 3.0. Is that the problem?
Anyway, regarding converting it to DVD... In step #2 it says:
2. Using Iso Buster extract all the files and folders from your "cd" image to you "new folder" on your desktop.
What exactly am I extracting? The cd icon or a subfolder of that? Am I supposed to "extract cd <image>" or "extract cd <content>". If the later, what sub option do I use after that. Thanks.

I have an OEM Version of Nero 6 so I don't have all the options as the normal Nero 6. Is there anyway to burn it to a dvd using Nero 6 Express? If not is there any other way to do it?

You guys are awesome!
I tried the straight CD backup with Nero the whole way, and I got results like others with a black screen right after "In a galaxy far away..."
The DVD backup method worked perfect for me!
Note to a previous post...
In IsoBuster, you want to right-click in the left side window 1 level below the CD icon, then choose the top, bold option, which will extract all the files and folders to whichever folder you created preivously.
When you view the contents of that folder after the extract, it should look identical to how it looks when you explore the original CD-rom.
No images or bins or cue files needed.
Thanks again all!

I am the CaptainHowdy mentioned earlier and Let me just say you are better off burning to dvd instead of cd because your ps2 doesnt like cdr's. That is why I started doing it in the first place. A way to make the games run more smoothly is add a few dummy files to make the disc a full 4.7 gigs, just make sure no one file is bigger thatn 2 gigs, because Nero doesnt allow this in this format of burning.

I also got it to work, burning it at 4x with Nero, but the disc is spinning very fast and wont stop in the PS2. I want to try the dvd method and will later. But for those of you who have done it correctly with a cd-r, how do you get it to not spin so fast in the ps2? Maybe I should try burning it at 1x? Thanks for your help guys!

you dont need scan light. doing it with Nero and all the settings as stated earlier is all you need. And works on most cd based games. Alos, some games that it wont work on still work on hdd after being converted to dvd. There is the Buff The Vampire Slayer cd game in particular. Even after you extract all the files with isobuster the cd you would need to burn it on has to be 90 min. Dont know where you folks are but I cant get 90 min cds,(and dont want to either), but burning it to dvd makes it playable on the hdd with no modes enabled, (either HDDAdvance or Loader)

@ capt howdy,no probs
its not something new to me this Nero method,i use it all the time for rebuilding iso's
i have used it before for converting cd to dvd without scan lite, with not much success i must admit,i have just tested it on lego starwars, and it did work .:)
i usally run them through scan lite to patch the system files to dvd-r,its doesnt do any harm
and also take note of the fact that dvd rips must be restored to there original state, using scanlite, then patched back to dvd,i find more success this way
the only ones that have failed me have LBA checks in them
regards hursty

Ok, i got a problem here and i've tried nearly everything..
Problem 1.
I have a copied version of Final Fantasy IX (NTSC) for PSX, i try to load swap magic 3.6 cd version but it won't load, i get the error (NEED A BIGGER T.O.C) or something like that. i've heard that it is possible to fit all 4cds onto a DVD as a SINGLE IMAGE, but beats me if i know how to do it.. are there any tutorials on how to do this??
Problem 2.
I have a SNES EMULATOR with 500+ games for my PS2 but i can't even get that to work either, says it's not a valid ps2 cd or something similar. anyone know why?
any help would be appreciated, thanx.

I also have the hdloader question. I hate the load times, so I'd prefer to just run my game from the HDD. It's so much faster.... Anyone have any luck?

Your post was misplaced.
This is a PS2 thread. You need to ask your question in the PC forum. I don't think this board is really the place for you to be asking; because from your description, the answers you need are probably on the website of whatever software you are trying to install. It sounds like you don't have the hardware requirements. However, it's neither here nor there, because not only are you asking about a pc game, but you have not even specified what it is. I am assuming that it's lego star wars; because of the thread, but then again, I would also assume it's ps2, and that's clearly not the case.
Whatever the case, check your system specifications, because it sounds like you don't have everything you need, particularly on the video card end. You might have a built in video card, which can be a pain, as some games work flawlessly with them, and some don't run at all. Or you may just not have a supported chipset. If this still doesn't solve your problem, try the PC section, they will be much more helpful for you.
Welcome to ADForums, and good luck with that.
