So my secondary Ide is now in Ultra DMA mode but after trying to burn in Nero, the max speed available is still only 2X using Fuji 8X DVD -R. When I first bought my LG writer last year I was burning at 4X with Fuji 4X DVD -Rs. But after like 8 months I could only burn at 2X which is baffling. However with the Riteks, I am able to burn at 2.5X. With the Maxells I am limited to 2X burn still.

Guess I didn't get the appy ending as Ucs did : ( but no fret I will keep trying.

I'll try to update the ASPI layer and see how that goes but I don't think I need to update firmware. It should be a last resort and I mean last.

update: My aspi is the latest so no need for that. I have analyzed my HDD and it seems it is in dire need of defragmenting. I will do that and see if that helps as noted earlier
