i guess i did??
here's what i did:
1-i decompressed the firmware file named "16P9S.FS07-FS09"
2-then went into the FS09 folder
3-ran the "16P9S.FS09.patcher" file
4-entered the max speed fpr each media type
5-disabled SMART-X
6-ran the file "16P9S.FS09.patched"
7-selected my LiteOn SOHD-16P9S DVD drive as the target
8-clicked on "update"
9-watched the pretty animations to show the progress of the flash
10-was prompted to reboot and did
did i miss something?
should i have chosen something diferently?
Thanks for all your help guys!

how are your ripping speeds now, are they better i hope.
if it wasnt for A/D i would of never done mine.
obtw, if you still are trying to trace your steps just read this thread i think everyone gave their 2 cents on it... =P
good luck,

O snap. I really messed this one up! What happen was i installed linux, and decided I did not really like it, so i reinstalled xp again. But i thought that if i reformated like i did i would have to patch again. So luckily i had copied the patcher to a cd, i chose the speeds and then click the patch. Then it was taking forever, so i thought the cd tray should not have a cd in it i could not take it out it just froze, so i shut down my computer, and i now i can not see my d drive! I really messed this one up, lmao. The patcher disc is still in the drive, i can not get it out. What should i do. My startup also freezes a little take real long. Am i going to have to buy a new drive again. Thank god only 20 dollars. Or could i so way patch the d drive? Please help, if i reformat with the e drive. Should things go back to normal or once you mess with the patches it will say like that even if you reformat???

This is great. I've been thinking of building a new system and knowing the fastest ripper around is good info. However, no-one has mentioned the actual speeds. Therefore i don't know if mine is fast or slow compare to you guys. I have an NEC and it rips at about 6.7x with DVD-D. Can you guys post some of your rip speeds? I'm leaning heavily towards the plextor, but the lite-on sure has a nice price tag. Thanks yall.

rip speeds,
well i usually do movie only and 5.1 sound. i leave the xtras on the orig.
last flick i did b/u
1hr 45min (movie only)
peaked at 15,000kbs something
wrote at 12x
total rip from disc and burn time 9min 32 secs.
usually flicks with little or no compression for me are blazing fast.
btw i use single layer dvds
=) X
my vote is for lite-on if you havent bought one yet.....

Just picked up a Plextor PX-716SA.
It is SerialATA, with 8MB cache!
This thing is SWEET and fast. Top-quality unit, best firmware support too.
Burners are so cheap these days, it's tough to get a good-quality unit...
