The sad thing about the internet is that either you take someone at his word, or you dont. Depending on the type of mod chip you use, it is possible for certain chips with "stealth" ability to pass undetected. If you are being caught for using a cheat device then its because of your chip/boot method. Socom2 and socom3 are patched to watch for a "soft boot", and if you have the means,as gamer says, it is possible to get by. I have no proof that his method doesnt work, therefore I have noting to rebutt him with. When I tried his method, I must have used a poor quality DVD and it simply wont boot for me at all. I will keep trying and take him at his word until I get to where you did, getting banned for a cheat device, then reset the IOP and EE..even dump the RAMS memory to prove or disprove him. Until you have tried everything I cant see myself calling him a liar.

I have a Matrix Infinity as well. I'm not sure how to set it to stealth mode. FYI the firmware has been updated to v 1.68. You can hold start at bootup to disable it, maybe the infinity simply doesn't have a stealth mode. Yeah I don't think you can play backups of Socom 2 or 3 online. Normal DNA checks are no problem, you simply patch the DNA's. With games that have online server checks however, I think your SOL.

Well I've heard there are ways, nothing definite though. Socom 3 may be playable with a backup online, but that has never been substaniated.

Does the DNA$ code have to be from the original? For example can I get the ID of a different online game(original) and use its ID to patch into a different online game which would be a backup.

thanks.

No you can use the DNA from any original game. The first 4 characters can be any letter from 0 to 9 or any letter from A-F. Just guess em and you'll be fine.

20. Q. What are DNA's?
A. Any game made after 2003 for the PS2 that is online playable contains one or more image files that has a "disk
DNA checker." The online game server checks your game disk to see if it's the real thing or not. Thus, you have to discover which .img file on the game disc has the checker file.

21. Q. How do I patch DNA's?
A. http://www.ps2nfo.com/on-line.html

22. Q. Where can I find DNA ID's?
A. NTSC-US: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/199101C

So, let me get this straight. The DNAS codes that are posted in those many threads, are from the real game, and the only reason they are missing the first 4 digits, is because it's the 4 numbers that change? So essentially, the last 6 numbers will -always- be there, on any version of that game? And the first 4 can be absolutely anything, from A-Z, 1-9.

Well I tried this; I got the DNA ID from my original pressed Resident Evil:Outbreak. I tried to inject it's ID into the image of Mortal Kombat:Deception. After I pathced it and burned it, Loads fine, but when I go to muliplayer my game just freezes?

Any though?

@ Zerotech Exactly, except it's 0-9, not 1-9.

You tried to inject the DNA ID from one game into a different one?! That makes no sense. You would need the DNA ID of Mortal Kombat Deception and follow the tutorial I posted for it to work properly.

I have a modded (magic V) ps2 v7. When I tried to play re outbreak file 2 online (actual copy) my account got banned. I assume this is due to my modded ps2. Does any one know away around this and would the same happen with socom 2&3?
btw does anyone know of other games besides socom 2&3 that have problems going online with the backup?

if you're using originals to go online just turn your mod off. This has been mentioned before but just use windip and make your like easier for inserting dnas IDs into ISOs (instead of the whole extracting/injecting files) If there's an app there to make it easier why make it hard on yourself?. Maybe gamer2000 just got passed the DNAS check with backups on socom 2/3 and assumed that it works when the problem is that you get kicked off with a "cheating device detected" message when you try to join/play an online game? (this is what I assume happens from reading as I have not tried those 2 games myself) Or could it be that because he was a beta tester it's somehow different for him?

So, does that mean that there is no way to play a backup of RE outbreak 2 online, since I would have to turn my mod chip off?

More or less. If there is an added online server check there isn't much you can do, even if you correctly patch the DNA's. If you have the original, just disable your modchip and use that to go online.

Yeah they do. I don't play Socom 3 online, but I know it does have an added server check. I've heard reports of people playing it online, but nothing concrete.

Hey Tokijin, your saying, if i patch my timesplitters ps2 game with a PAL dnas code, ill be able to play online with my backup? so what happens when ea finds out their are 5 different ppl online with the same dnas code? will i loose my persona/ea account, when you say stealth mode, what do you mean? does the crystal chip have stealth mode? also wtf does SOL mean? were u bein a smart azz?

Well that's always the risk you take when patching the DNA's. It is possible but very unlikely that someone will use the exact same Hexadecimal characters for the first four characters of the DNA's ID. EA may ban that particular DNA ID, but you could just patch it again with a different one. Hey if you don't own the original and you want to play online, that's the breaks. I'm not sure if the Crystal Chip has a stealth mode. It probably does, check for yourself. The Crystal Chip auto patches the DNA's, meaning you don't have to do it manually. SOL means shit outta luck. Trust me that's not being a smart ass. You'd know if I was being a smart ass.

84. Q. I know you said I should get a DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity, but I'm interested in the Crystal Chip, is the Crystal Chip any good?
A. Yes. It direct boots everything and supports all the features of the Matrix Infinity and DMS 4. The Crystal Chip has an added bonus: It auto patches DNA's for online play. So you can play your backups online automatically without having to dink around with Winimage, Windip, or Disc ID Insertor, or any form of DNA patching. The Crystal Chip is currently the only modchip on the market that supports this feature. If you play your PS2 games online a lot, and are interested in getting it modded, check out the Crystal Chip.

But, technically, if you buy the game, there is a small chance that it won't work, because some one has already used it?

No. That's why the first 4 digits are variable. Well I guess it's at least possible, but it's very unlikely. It's not something you should be concerened with. What are the game companies going to do, are they going to ban everyone with that DNA ID, so they end up banning people who actually own the game? No that'll never happen. It's a catch 22. So until they all have online server checks, I don't think there's a lot that they can do. Game companies are retarded, much like the RIAA, in my opinion.

edited for a mistake...this is now true:
From the thread here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/198137
It says that *each game* has its own supported DNAS codes. If you want a DNAS, you'll have to find that original game, extract the working code, and then burn that into your backup using either Image Patcher or Disc ID Insertor.
Here's my question. I'm looking at my original SSX3 and it has a DNAS of XX XX 07 30 4C. Same as from that thread above. I also looked on another thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/9/199101
and see the PAL codes differ a bit:
Quote:
SSX 3 - UK/PAL
(Size = bytes)
Disc ID = XX XX 00 40 7C

SSX 3 - ITA/PAL
(Size = bytes)
Disc ID = XX XX 03 40 7C

SSX 3 - GER/PAL
(Size = bytes)
Disc ID = XX XX 06 40 7C
If the final two sets of numbers are the same, could I take my US version of SSX3, get a valid code for the first two sets, then change it so it has XX XX 00 40 7C like the UK version? I would be playing this on a European PS2. I know that if you play an out of region disc, the server will reject you because the regions must go with the game. Am I wrong? Somebody school me.

if you're a college student, do NOT settle with the RIAA http://tinyurl.com/37oz2z
