Greetings all!
It seems DVD43 has decided to stop working for me.
I recently got a dvd burner and downloaded dvd43 a week ago to bypass encyption. It has worked perfectly until today.
After using it to burn 3 movies in a row, it froze at the point of insertion on the 4th. The devil face popped up saying the dvd matched the region of my drive, and refused to change. It wouldn't even go green. As a result, the program I was using to copy the dvd to my computer (1 click dvd), gave me the encryption warning.
I uninstalled dvd43 and even reinstalled it several times, always getting the same message - "can't connect" and something about the dvd driver...
Any help would be appreciated. I'm at a total loss!
Regards,
Alik

You can also try dvdfab - also free (just in case) - You can also use that w/ DVD Shrink.
FYI - Many of us have had problems w/ DVD43 ever since the last upgrade which was 3.6.2 I believe

Hi guys, thanks so much for the response (and sorry for the late reply!).
Currently, I'm using a trial version of AnyDVD... unfortunately, it's not free. It's working wonderfuly, and i've put it through the stress test (burning more then 4 or 5 dvd's in a row).
I can't understand why DVD43 crashed and became totally non responsive on me. Since no one has specifically addressed that problem, I presume that I might just be one of the freak cases who couldn't get it working even AFTER I uninstalled and reinstalled it.
Nonetheless, when AnyDVD expires, I will use one of the other programs you recomended here - like dvd fab, or shrink.
Thanks for your time guys,
Regards
ak

go into your
START
RUN
Type in MSCONFIG
click the STARTUP tab
UNCHECK the DVD43 box
RESTART/SHUTDOWN your computer
Next time you turn on the comp - DVD43 will not be on auto - go into your CONTROL PANEL and UNINSTALL it!

I never could quite figure out why people pay money to get programs that will let you watch different region dvd's.
I tried DVD43 but I wasnt overly impressed with it.
Personally I use vlc media player :
www.videolan.org/vlc/
Not only does it get around the region issue and allow you to play dvd's from different regions without affecting the region on your dvd drive it also plays a whole host of other file types and if you think the interface is too complex or even dull ( depending on your opinion ) you can get skins for it from here :
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-skins2.html
I hope this helps.

Looks like Sony has added something new or at least I haven't seen it before. In trying to copy "The Polar Express" using AnyDVD and 1Click everything seemed good until I attempted to play the DVD. Got great video, but no audio. Went back to the drawing board using DVDFab to Decryp, but everytime I hit the start button, the program was shut down. I tried it with other disks and it worked fine, just not with Polar Express. Finally went to DVDShrink and got a good copy. Just thought I would pass on the info for those who may run into the same thing.
PS Good copy of "War of the Worlds" with AnyDVD and 1Click

Akapela,
In one of your writeups you said you got an error message out of DVD43 indicating "Can't connect, reinstall drivers" or something to that effect. I have been using DVD43 for months and it has worked perfectly, then my computer's power supply blew and I had to replace it. When I booted the system first time after the power supply install I got the same error message from DVD43. After reading this forum's answers to your question I installed AnyDVD. After re-booting I got an error message from AnyDVD that it could not locate my DVD burner or drive. I knew immediately I must not have connected the power to the drive. Sure enough after opening the case the power cable was not connected. After making the connection, re-booting the error message was gone from AnyDVD. Just for the fun of it I uninstalled AnyDVD and re-installed DVD43. Guess what the error message was gone and it worked as advertised. I believe you mentioned that during this error message you could not see your drive. It may the drive is intermitant, has a loose connection or is about to go bad. The error message in DVD43 may not be as descriptive as needed to solve your problem, but check out your drive connections.

To: Fukncrazy: DVD43 works fine for copying DVD's.
But, unfortunatly, it sucks for your computer. I have decided to save the install file for
dvd43 and after installing the program and copying a DVD I deinstall DVD43 until the next time I need it.

ireland,
Got CloneDVD and like it. Has great control over copying, but didn't see anything along the lines of custom compression similiar to DVDShrink. Will continue to use Clone, like the interface. Had a problem with Cinderella Man. Used AnyDVD and CloneDVD and got the cyclic recyling error. Cleaned the disk, checked for defects etc., all looked good, but none of the standard copier would do it all with the same error message. Finally took and decrypted it with DVDFab and once ripped used DVDShrink to encode and burn the files. Worked great, but like Clone for those backup that don't require special attention. Thanks for the suggestion.
