what about "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? my firmware's never been a problem before, and i'd rather leave it as is instead of risk screwing it up, unless it starts creating problems. do you really think i should update it?

i don't think sonic is the source of the problem; it's never caused any issues before. i won't be able to do any more work on this tonight, but hopefully tomorrow i'll get to finish the download of GUIforDVDauthor. at that point, i'll totally wipe Nero (using Clean Tools this time), install the DVDauthor programs, then Nero and cross my fingers. wish me luck, good buddy :D and thank you, again.

re the firmware - i hear ya, you'll be ok as long as you don't buy different media or higher speed-rated firmware.

re Sonic - cool, just mentionmed it as i hear it's name come up sometimes..

plan of attack finally completed. it seems as though the problem still remains. as long as i don't add text or transitions, i can still create a video file, add a menu, burn it, save it, and go back and edit it again. but once i add transitions or text and save, i get that error again. dunno what crap is all about, but now i'm open to suggestions for good free programs to create movies with. something that will allow me to add text, transitions, and menus. any ideas, all? i guess i'm gonna have to wait for goddamn Nero 7 to get the bugs out, then try that. *is extremely pissed again* anyone else ever had this problem?

well, i have Pinnacle Studio 8, Arcsoft Showbiz, Sonic MyDVD, and The FilmMachine. for the most part, i'll just try to stick with Studio 8 and hope Nero can get it's ass in line at some point with V. 7.XXX. i'll get that eventually. thanks for your help, creaky :-)
