http://www.norcalmods.com is saying thay will insall the matrix infinity and supply the chip for $80 and 15 dollars shipping. Are they a reliable site and is this a good price? Teammodders is busy so Should I give it to them? How much did it cost you guys to get a matrix infinity put in(installation+shippings+chip), where did you buy the chip?

So let me get this right, all I need to do is have a mod-chip installed in my ps2 and it will play my games that I have backed up without the use of SM, correct. Also, how do I know the Version of my ps2, it is a slim one with the VOID sticker on the bottom of the case, covering a screw, and it has the metal piece installed next to the lid hinge inside where the disc sits....

Don't know their not listed in the link. I would do my homework before sending my PS2 off. Xmodds.com is supposed to be reliable. Check out http://www.bbb.com and http://www.resellerratings.com for info on different sites. I definitely would make sure I'm comfortable with the site and make sure they're reputable before I sent my PS2 to them. You definitely don't need Swap Magic if you have a modchip. The DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity will direct boot all your backups and imports. You have a v.12-14 PS2. Check here to see:
If it's not listed, it's a v.14. I included some info about burning PS2 games.

23. Q. What version is my PS2?
A. http://mod-chip.com/index-cart-us.php?go=en/select_ps2_main.htm

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, etc.

3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm

I believe the DMS 4, Matrix Infinity are compatible with the v.14 motherboard. I remember reading about it on PS2nfo.com. Also this link seems to confirm it: http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=73400 Go with the Matrix Infinity or DMS 4. They are both excellent chips which direct boot everything.

Does anyone know anything about the Crystal Chip, I am being told that that is the only chip that is currently available for my V14 slim ps2, anyone know any specs...

The Crystal Chip is okay. I'd wait and see if the Matrix Infinity and DMS 4 are compatible with the v.14. I know those companies are looking into compatibility with the v.14 motherboard as we speak. Do a little research and decide what's best for you.

whats up with teammodders? When are they going to start taking orders again?

Someone who has their ps2 system modded by team modders tell me how much shipping is and how the order takes place. How do they collect your ps2, what do you have to do it(package), do you have to contact teammodders on the phone etc.?

Is it better to + or - media, currently I am using verbatim + and burning at the slowest speed possible, using swap magic 3.6, and some of my games seem to load slow, and play a little choppy... will a chip make the games load faster and play smoother??

Probably. Verbatim is good media. DVD-R's usually work better with the PS2. Try burning slightly slower. I don't know when teammodders will start taking orders again. They are really busy right now. A lot of people get their children modded systems for Xmas. Xmodds.com is also supposed to be reliable. I've heard norcalmods.com is okay, but I don't know anything about them. You ship your PS2 in a box. I packed mine with cellophane on all sides and some styrofoam. You drop it off at the post office. Priority shipping with insurance will be around $18-$20. The cost for teammodders.com is the price of the chip+installation+shipping. It's $100-$115 for the service total. They installed a Matrix Infinity in my PS2.

thanks tokijin, I would like to go with the matrix, but the people at norcalmods are saying that the only chip that will work with the v14 ps2 is the crystal chip, or the dms4 if I buy it and ship it to them to put in...

do teammodders sell you the chip or do you have to buy the chip separately and send it off to them with your ps2 system?

For xmodds.com is it 90 dollars for the matrix infinity chip and the installation?

For norcalmods.com is it 80 dollars for the matrix infiniry chip and the installation?

Teammodders.com supplies the chip. Those other sites I'm not sure, browse their sites and figure it out.

Ok, here's the problem. My PS2 model number SCPH-39001, when I turn the power on, the red light comes on, I push the reset button and it turns from red to green and the fan starts spinning, but no disc spinning, no laser moving, nothing appearing on the tv screen. I can turn the power off/on by holding the reset button but nothing else seems to do anything.. I do use swap magic 3.6 and have a flip-top installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Doesn't sound good. You have a v.7 PS2. If it won't even boot, then you need to take it to a pro and see what he says.

For swap games, I assume that you're talking about playing backups on your PS2. If so, you can get a program called Swap Magic (3.6 is the newest version). With this program, you can play burnt games. You just put in the Swap Magic disc, and when it loads, you put in the burnt game and load it. You will also need a mod of some sort (Slide tool, magic switch, flip top, etc) depending on what version of PS2 you have. If your PS2 is the fat version, you could get Swap Magic and the slide tool or flip top; otherwise, if you have a newer slim PS2, you can get Swap Magic with magic switch, magic keys, etc. You can get that stuff here: http://www.swapmagic3.com/Swap_Magic_Where_To_Buy.asp

Hope this helps!
