They must be installed otherwise you wouldn't be able to use the drive. You can go to device manager to check if the drivers are infact installed correctly.

I'm not at home right now, but when I double click on IDE it has different options than it did before. There is also yellow exclamations points (!) next to them. When I put in a DVD it use to pop up and ask would like to open using power DVD, etc. but now it doesnt it just shows a folder with AUDIO TS and VIDEO TS. Its not the same anymore. When I restart my computer it says reinstall unsuccessful everytime, its kind of anoying. The exact error it reads is stated above.

Check the IDE cables first that they are secure. Then use the 'roll back' uption for the drivers and then try and reinstall the drivers again.

It was always my best drive and then I did a clean sweep on my PC and installed my Norton Ghost copy. Since then I've been having problems, which leads me to believe that the drive may still be in working condition. I think it is something minor but I have a lack of experience when it comes to this.

Try doing a system restore back to a date before the problems started ocurring.
