But there're two options that write:

flash0 emulation
and flash1 emulation

... in UMD Emulator (v0.8c)

What are they for?

They just emulate the flash, they do not write to it. You take a dump of a flash file, and it will attempt to emulate or mimick that falsh dump and pretend it is that version without actually updating.

UMD Emulator's flash emulation does not work that good at the moment, MPH Firmware loader is better.
