@t2m - I've used crossover cables to set-up and run networks (sharing both files and internet connections) for years without problems.

To pman1130 - Looks like ur problem lies in the use of crossover cable. I know it doesnt work if u use it to connect ur
modem to ur puter hence to use it to connect other puter to the net would ne a nono.
This is not true. It does work. You have to use a crossover cable when your NOT using a hub (the hub performs the crossover).

To answer your question, I'm currently using a D-Link router and hub for my network.

this is for T2M, cross over cable didnt work when connecting ur modem to ur computer because thats not what it's for. Crossover is used in place of a hub or router because it crosses over data. For ur modem to computer you need to use straight throught cat5 network cable.

On the REMOTE computer:

Start> Run Type CMD

In the DOS window that comes open: Type ipconfig /release. Then Enter

That should set the IP address information to 0.0.0.0

Then type ipconfig /renew. Then Enter

That should set the IP to 192.168.0.X (where X is a random number).

Let me know the results.
