Oh goodie, a fresh unpicked burn log. .
Here is what i see in that log..
I could only find the 1673S drive listed at the firmware page, and the revisions didn't match up with your firmware, so it looks like no firmware update is available for that drive. But.. i think i see where you are having problems.

the version of nero you have is not seeing your drive. . 6.6.1.4 is the latest version
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php
Is there an external drive connected? if so, the following ? in the log is ok, but if all drives are internal, you need to check your System ASPI files for corruption.

Bus Type : via Inquiry data (1) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
Nero info tool will check it for you and report back as to status.

You are just under the Minimum amount of ram suggested for DVD ripping (512mb) and have most of it in use. Try to close down and kill off as many programs as possible before burning, and don't try to multi-task while burning. You could also invest in another stick of memory to help things out, but that is not what is causing your failed burns. More memory would help, but it is not absolutely needed.

You are burning too close to the edge of media. Probably using the default DVD5 setting in nero. On the burn page, change the target to Custom 4300. When using very good media, i set it to 4400, but most suggest 4300 as a safe setting.

Very good choice of media there.
Quote:

Take your burn speed down to 4x. It will be worth waiting the small increase in burn time.

this is what shut Nero down, and it can be a number of things that added up to it, and i haven't even reached a biggie i see at the end yet but i dont want to ruin the end of the movie.. Burning too fast, Nero not recognizing your drive, and this last one, probably added up to the combination knock out punch that shut you down for the count..
Ready for the last one?? Me too, i can hardly wait.. Here it comes, You ppl talking in the audience,,be quiet, the show is starting back up,, and if you kick the back of my seat one more time, im gonna get behind you and kick the back of your head.. whew, sorry about that, the noise was bothering me..

BAM!! The ref is coming over,, looks like the champ is in trouble,, yep he's out..
Nero's very own INCD packet writing software is installed on your system and it conflicts with NERO of all things. It has to be removed completely from your system. Use Nero's own zapper program to remove it completely.
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html
You didn't see that one coming as it was the famous Nero Sucker Punch. Many times INCD is bundled in with Nero, and many ppl don't know the dangers of INCD until they try to rip a movie.

Now exuse me while i go a couple rows back and kick the sh*t out of that seat kicker!!

@MaxBurn
Love the post!! Very witty :)

@Heelfan
Your headed in the right direction - just follow maxburn's lead and all should be sorta out.
If your using Nero to autoburn w/ shrink you might want to hold off on the update of Nero - the last update 'broke' this connection. If you don't have or use shrink then disregard this!

Binkie, I am using Nero Recode, not Shrink.

Max, I folowed your directions, and was able to burn a couple of the Verbatim's just fine. I am using an External Lite-On drive, and I did get rid of InCD.

Mr. Pink, I would love to know why yours can change the booktype, since I still can't. I guess for now I'll stay with this drive although the burned DVD's will only play on my desktop.

Thanks to all for your time and assistance.

The only thing I can think of about your booktype problem. Is your burner is 1673su external where his is 1673s internal. There is also a 1673sx but I have not ran across one yet. Liteon does have the new firmware posted on there site for the su external but it seems to loop back to the download link instead of the download. Maybe in a while they will have that fixed. Its the same version as for the 1673s but with the su being external it may have an update build in it for the usb interface that is inside the box with your burner.

Whompus, that is exactly the case. I have the SU external, and every tme that I try to update the firmware I get an error that it is not for the burner I have. XS02 is the firmware on my drive.

Hi there Binkie7!
I like your new sig :) Yeah, i can get creative sometimes when i have the proper chemical stimulation.. LOL.. :)
@heelfan,
when i searched for your drive all i could find was this, and it looks like they are going to start the SU version with an X in the place where a J is in the 1673S
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2026
Thats why i didnt even link you to this before as im sure its not the firmware you need. USB external drives can cause problems. You might want to see if there is a USB driver update for your system.
