some media, burners are just picky after time you'll find a sweet spot, stick to it.
I used a Sony DVD-R MIJ 8x with RB. The one I used before that worked well with Shrink was a CMC Mag. That was before I read all the bad stuff about it on here, but it worked well. My burner is a Sony DVDRW DRU800-A.

well the c** word is a big nono around these parts.
it's just that some times you get a good batch, and then 10 disk's l8ter you are scratching your head wondering "what happened?"

mostly I stick to maxell 8x's as they play nice w/ my burner.

I've also had troubles w/ sony they went to shite on me after two flawless burns the rest went sour.

so it's really up to your burner which media is good.

ps. I totally missed this but noticed you are encoding S.W.III this is interlaced and not well supported by the freeware version of dvd-rb.

Is there any reason to use 3 click mode? At what stage do you get to use the Preview/Edit?

thank you all for your help but i did end up scrapping the first encode i was doing at 7 pass and took arniebears advice but i did 4 pass and took out a couple of commentaries, and i got fantastic result, cheers all.

Glad it worked out well for you. The results from RB and whatever encoder you decide to use are always great. Happy burning to you :)

If you use the three stage mode, you can edit/preview after you have done the prep phase. The three stage give you more control, but you also have to monitor. I usually use the 1 click and menu/movie because I can just let it go and come back later and the movie is done.

three click is also very useful if you have to stop and resume where you left off.
kinda like a pause button if you need to surf or use the p.c. for other reason's.
