paddy, actually what he asked IS a fair question too! We've been screaming for a couple of years now not to upgrade your PSP because you can't run homebrew. Many, many people upgraded their psp's to 2.6 because of forced upgrades through UMD's not knowing. That is at least understanable. We've been telling them for over a year now to not go any further than 2.6 because of the gta exploit found. The real question is, since there are no known games that require 2.7 or higher, why in the world would you upgrade for no reason whatsoever other than to ensure that you will not be able to run homebrew until you flop down a cool benjamin for a mod chip?

Do I look stupid or something? Do you actually think I'd upgrade my firmware full knowing that I wouldn't be able to do any of this stuff?
Why do people always assume that it's your own fault? Guess what - I DIDN'T KNOW. It was only after upgrading I started reading into all this. I couldn't really care less about all this "Homebrew" stuff people keep banging on about (if I wanted to run a 15 year old PC game, I'd do it on my PC) all I wanted to be able to do was run ISO's of backup games.

I feel you dude most homebrew I could care less for. Some is ok. IMHO must of it is dumb. I almost upgraded my psp to 2.70 when they came out with the abillty to play flash. But thank god I didn't!

I think it will be possible to make a downgrader for 2.7/2.71 since they allready made one for 2.5/2.6. Nobody saw that coming. I think Fanjita and others made the 2.5/2.6 downgrader. I think Hodgins91 is right, the next downgrader will probably be through the web browser because I was reading the forums in psp-hacks.com and this one dude sayed that he had an idea to make a website with a program that would connect to your psp through the browser. The only problem was that he didn't know how to program.

Thats not true. Just because you have an idea on how to run homebrew on FW2.7/2.71 doesn't mean that you can do it if you know how to program.
Oh and by the way, the 2.5/2.6 downgrader was made by Dark_Alex not Fanjita.

Wow ive never talked to somebody this fast and got a reply within the same minute! but ya, i know about security and stuff, i know you can't just write a program, you have to find yourself a loophole or security flaw to work into your program and the web browser probly has that flaw in it. :)

I might buy a new to me PSP 3.0 firmware if it has the gps. Then I can play all the new games. And have gps. If the u.p. or u.p. secound editon dosn't work for 3.0 firmware.

Gps is global postioning system. You know there used in cars and when you want to go some where its like a digital map. Firmware 3.00 is rumored to have gps and a camera attachment included. Not included but the ablity to use these items...

Hodgins did make a good point of making a downgrader through the internet browser....WOW good thinking and i do believe that is the route that hackers will use for u 2.7+ guys....i hope u too will be able to experince v1.5 one day...

well it was only an idea of mine, i didnt say it could be done or even work lol. but thats the only thing that hasnt been exploited yet. or we could wait for a new game with the same flaw as gta, but thats unlikely. :)

Oh and for the record, my PSP has a TA-082 motherboard, I have upgraded it to v2.71 (it was at v2.6 when I bought it) and, I have the new patched copy of GTA: Liberty City Stories with which the eLoader does not work. Triple whammy for me. I can't downgrade. I can't run the eLoader, which means no homebrew for me. I can't even get a freakin' modchip :(
