sata stands for serial ata transfer and is much faster than pata

and once again no do not go with an intel processor, amd if u wanna
gamer/multimedia machine

pata speeds are 33mbs/s to 133mbs/s i beleive
sata speeds are 150mb/s to 300mbs/s

most cases usually come with at least 3 internal hd bays but lots of cases will support up to 5 hdd's

unless its a small formfactor case

Vegeta66, SATAs can go as high as 3Gb/sec, way higher than what you say, I would advise against 2 HDs in RAID, unless you know what you are doing. 2Gig of RAM & a 3800AMD will sort you out with speed.

Here is a few quick SATA HDs;

Spend as much as you can on a graphics card, a 7900GT should do rather nicely.
