Sounds like a new fan would be my best option right now as I am using the one that came with the CPU from intel. When I do thaht I can apply new thermal paste, say a prayer and see what happens.

Any other suggestions? Everything else seems to be proper and, knock on wood, it hasn't frozen today since I cleaned out the dust. Obviously, the cooler the better so a new fan would definately be in order.

or bigger heat sink besides new fan. is your heatsink properly seated on the cpu as a friend had somewhat same problem except his was caused by a broken clip that holds the cpu heatsink assembly to the motherboard?

I've been out of town for a week but I returned with a new Mad Dog P4 CPU Heatsink and fan. Picked it up for $20 at Circuit City and as you can probably guess ... it has resolved my heat problem. Sys temp is 31c and the CPU temp... drum roll please... 40.5c. Burrrrrr!!! It's like a cold front here! Thanks for everyone's help. Hopefully this will resolve the system lock up issue.
