Hello,

From what I've read on this and in other forums, I probably have the w32.Myzor.FK@yf trojan. I have attempted to follow the instructions in the initial message on the thread, but have had no luck. Spyware shows nothing. SmitFraudFix ran to completion but I still have the problem. It appears that it is affecting both iexplorer and mozilla Firefox. I am not super techie and would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

Here is my HijackThis log:

trouter52,

You do not have Myzor. Plus, I don't see anything that would be giving you trouble. Could you please give me some more technical info on your problem?

My symptoms are as follows:

When I first bring up iexplorer, the browser is redirected from the normal home page to msn.com. When browsing, I encounter many times when the browzer is extremely slow going to the selected page, sometimes locking up completely (I can move the cursor, but am unable to give commands by clicking. At these times, I lose connection to the net (I can tell because my logmein icon indicates that connection is lost). Firefox will not initiate as I get an error saying that the program is already running and needs to be closed (or the computer rebooted) in order to open a new window. I think this problem may have started with the download of a video from usenet. The redirect of the home page occurred immediately after the download.

Does this data help?

Yep.

Go here, download this. Install, update and run in safe mode(press F8 upon boot, select "Safe Mode" from menu.

Let me know what, if anything, it finds.

I followed your instructions. However, Prevx1 didn't want to run in Safe Mode. In regular mode (XP Pro), it found around 10 malware problems including a loader2.exe which it put in "jail". However, the program gives me "access denied" messages when I try to delete the "inmates".

Thanks in advance for your help. What can I do to help your?

Hehe, silly me! Knowing Prevx will not run in safe mode. I'm sorry for that.

The Prevx 1 Jail is a secure area which is used to automatically isolate harmful programs so that they cannot be run and cause damage. You can view the Prevx 1 Jail at any time to review its contents. At that time you can choose to lock harmful programs permanently in Jail, delete or place them in the Holding Cell (which means that they will override Prevx 1's default settings and will be allowed to be run).*

*Excerpt from http://info.prevx.com/faq.asp#27

You must lock it permanently in jail. I have not used Prevx myself because I haven't need to. I am downloading it now, which will take about an hour(I'm on dial-up). I will get back to you on how to delete them from jail as soon as I find out. In the mean time, please do not uninstall Prevx. Post a new HijackThis log, just to be certain everthing is clean.

I understand the prevx1 terminology. However, I want to delete these programs and I receive an access denied error when I try. Is this because I have not yet registered the software?

Oh, and BTW. The browser problems still exist. Should I reboot to see if they are resolved. I have not yet rebooted because I didn't want Prevx1 to lose the inmates.

Remember, I'm not much of a techie.

Still having trouble? Damn! Ok, lock the "inmates" permantly in "jail" then restart your computer. Prevx will not allow them to run.

Edit: No, you do not need a key to delete items in jail. I just downloaded it and it found 1 malware, it put it in jail. I clicked "clear jail" and it deleted it. If you are still having problems deleting your let me know.

When I attempt to delete any of the files in jail, I get a confirmation statement. When I say yes, to confirm the delete I get an "axcess denied, unable to delete" warning. This occurs when I try to delete any of the jailed files.

After a reboot, Firefox still thinks it is already running and will not come up. iexplorer appears to be functioning better. I have not locked up yet nor lost internet connection. However, iexplorer will not load yahoo.com which was the original home page prior to the problems. I can't get there through a link or a direct entry in the address bar. These may be direct or indirect results of the trojan (assumption).

Thanks for your assistance. The trojan may be gone, but these other problems are frustrating.

Hello,

This is my very first post here, and unfortunately, I have to start with a problem. I had the W32.Myzor.FK@yf virus myself, which I managed to remove according to your instructions. However, I still get my browser (IE 6) homepage redirected to msn.com (it used to be hotmail), get an occasional popup adware and, what's more, now I seem to be infected by winetn32.dll, which is yet another trojan.

All in all, my question is whether you can help me if I post my HiJack This log?

Cheers for your time,
Tamas

I cleaned those two files out....I am going to reboot the computer in the morning and hopefully all will be gone by the time I do that. If not, I will get back to you and repost yet again HijackThis log :)

trouter52,

I don't see anything that would cause that, in fact your clean from what I see in your log. Try uninstalling Firefox restarting your computer and reinstalling.

If you still cannot find the solution, try what I have done, I used two tools, a combination of Ewido and Smitfraud. It worked well for me. See the complete procedure her:

DO NOT CLICK ON THAT LINK....

it is there to show you what I am still getting for popups. I also run AVG and it finds some downloader program...its downloader.something.ccy...its always here...even after AVG erases it, it comes back. I dont know how its getting back into my system...and the computer is running VERY slow until I reboot then it runs fine until I open a web page and yahoo messenger 8.0...I have fun HijackThis, ATF Cleaner, and the other program that took over 25 hours to "clean" my system. Can someone please tell me how this is STILL in my system? Here is my NEW HijackThis log....this is beginning to be VERY annoying to me.

FiremanRC,

Go here http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
Prompt about closing and re-opening click OK.
When VundoFix re-opens, click the "Scan for Vundo" button.
When it finishes, click the "Remove Vundo" button.
When you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When finished, shutdown when prompted.

Post new HijackThis log along with C:\vundofix.txt contents.
