For those who are curious about my system, I forgot to mention that my rig that I built is about 2 years old. So you can imagine the pain I'm going through. I can't afford to build a new system, so I'm stuck with what I have.

Here are my spec

AMD Sempron 2800+ @ 2.01 GHz [Had a AthlonXP 2700+ before that fried]
1.00 GB DDR Ram
120 GB Western Digital HDD [Still purring like a kitten]
10 GB Wester Digital HDD [Used as extra storage]
MicroAdvantage 8X DVD+/- RW burner
Apollo GeForce FX 5500
Windows XP Professional (SP2)

As you can tell even when I built the system 2 years ago, I was very cheap. Don't have alot of money to throw around. As for stuff running in the background, I'm very anal about that. I'm make their isn't anything in the background that can consum a lot of resources or at best consum minimal amount of ram. So I think the processor is what's killing me when it comes to encoding an entire DVD. Everything in Windows XP is all up to date.

@BlinkN

that system should not take you 8 to 10HRS to backup a DVD. Do you use the 10GB for DVD storage?

10 GB Wester Digital HDD [Used as extra storage]

that drive could be the problem.

Make sure that the source folder/work folder/ouput folder of DVD-RB are set to the 120GB drive.

It also could be the 120 GB Western Digital HDD.

I had a 120 GB Western Digital HDD in my ciomputer that i use now and DVD-RB took 8 to 10HRS to do a movie. When my Xbox fried I took out the 300GB that was in the Xbox and replaced it with the 120GB and my DVD-RB times went down to 2 2/3 to 4 HRS.

I placed the 120 GB Western Digital HDD into another computer and fif a backup using DVD-RB and that computer also took 6 to 10HRS. The drive seemed to be working perfvect on all other things but for some reason DVD-RB takes forever when using that 120GB HDD.

In anycase it should not take you 8 to 19HRS to backup a DVD on the system you have.

It's like we were saying before, it's opinions and some are not going to say a negative thing about the one they love. For me now you can fine ProCoder2 for less than a hundred dollars and the best CC for about 2,000$ makes it a clear choice for me.

Oh and you aren't the only one that it takes 8 hours plus with AutoQMatEnc, but it does a great job, but in most cases I am still going to stick with Recode2 and move on to the next project.....but that's just my opinion....again...ha ha

I use the 120 GB HDD for my work and output directory of my DVDs. The 10 GB HDD is used for MP3 storage. Nothing else.

What I think might be causing the slow down with AutoQMatEnc is enabling QMATOpt (AQM) and using 2 pass vbr. This creates a total of 3 passes towards the video.

It could be my 120 GB drive seeking to slowly. I wouldn't know for sure because I don't have another 120 GB HDD lying around. Just for the heck of it, maybe I should try QuEnc or HC encoder one of these times to see how fast they encode.
