Generally, ppl talking about downloaded stuff has been let through but usually its not allowed for ppl to hint where to go looking or for someone to make a request for links for a specific pirated item. It seems that console forums have gotten so bad that moderators probably dont even see the point in trying anymore.... let's see how long it will take for the console forums to be completely removed at this pace.
Not trying to get on anyone's back personally, we just cant have people telling ppl where to get pirated stuff (for legal reasons)... simple and our PM system isnt supposed to be used to get links for pirated stuff either. If people do it cause they really didn't know it was against the rules, then fair enuff, everyone makes mistakes, but there's plenty of users on the console forums who are well aware but just dont care or are too childish to abide by some simple rules - personally, iot's the users with an attitude problem that I prefer to kick out.
Talk about booting backup copies of games and homebrew, its all fine, but when people actually have no problem pointing ppl to places to download the games (illegally) publicly, thats when we have a problem.

Well, it's all about the context, on this thread we had someone ask for a specific gamke and he got replies on where to get it, when someone just says ISO or CSO games, there's no specifics in there - although there is an ongoing debate among the staff about whether or not lists like that can be allowed now.
And before anyone wants to point out more threads we are well aware of how many threads like this there are, it's just simply not easy to moderate a forum that keeps growing larger weekly.
Oh I gotcha. So as long as you're asking for something general like an mp3 torrent site, you could respond by saying mp3torrentsitethatsfake.com. But when they ask for a specific song you can't recommend a site like that?

I know this has been brought up hundreds of times before, but what about the possibility of throwing in some new mods. Just have them specifically check the console forums.
Ye new mods are definitely on the plan but since there are so many members now, its not that easy to hand pick who's best for the position anymore :-)

Ye something like that. Basically whatever people do with information provided is their own choice, so if someone gets a link to a torrent site at AfterDawn and then ends up getting sued 6 months down the line for copyright infringement, well AfterDawn did not assist in copyright infringement and anyone who tried to make the argument would have to go after Google / Yahoo etc. But if someone asks "hey I want to get a copy of vice city stories, where can I get it?" and someone replies with a torrent site, well.... you get the idea.

I think its safe to say that this staff regards cencorship as one of the worst things you can do. If you remember at the start of the year we were basically forced to remove a lot of content form the main site (most of which I had personally authored so I feel very strongly about this) because of a very very unfair implementation of EUCD in Finland. The wording was so bad that Guides and information can be considered as tools... just like AnyDVD etc. However, the staff decided against enforcing it on the forums because it's an international forum,. most users here aren't finnish and this content is NOT published by AfterDawn Oy, but by just regular home users around the world.
