here is an idea. I think if you were able to get your hands on a virus and burn it on to the dvd with an auto run. law that should prevent it from being copied...i think...

Good way to open yourself up to litigation, not to mention piss of your customers.
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Hi RBRock,
1) There is a Cheap way around this ... all Ellison needs to do is get one of his dvd's and seal it in an envelope mailed to himself in front of a "Notary Public" and say what it is ... once he gets that envelope in the mail he keeps it "Unopened" for future disputes ... will win in any court.
2) I can NOT believe that Ellison asked the Question how to encrypt a work ... and I am even more surprised that he even got so many people to post any answer to his Q (including myself).
Thanks,
G!

But are you faulting him because he wanted to encrypt his own work, or because he didn't realize how futile, at least for the moment, that effort was?
He was only aiming for an inconvenience level of copy protection anyway. Not difficult to bypass, but one that stops 80% of the 1-clickers. How can you argue with someone wanting to protect their own work?
Right now digital video copy protection is a joke. The best encryption EllisonCE could apply today wouldn't stop anyone who reads this forum. But it would stop most people who don't. And I think that's all he was shooting for.

Is that what this "copy protection" thing is all about? If it was a legit guy trying to defend his work that's one thing. If it's a bottom feeder trying to make a buck, then forget about it.

Well, if someone wants information about encrypting or decrytping video, then I think any video forum is a good place to ask those questions. Information is the important thing, not which side of the encryption/decryption fence you are on.

you are right it was games.. not movies... The fact remains the same if someone wants the stuff bad enough, they are going to get it.

Such a dumb question! If Sony can only manage a minor annoyance every couple of months with all their money and resources, how do you possibly expect to succeed?

things i would like to clear up:
1.) I MOST DEFINANTLY DONT work for sony. they are evil, and i despise them. Only good thing they have done is Vegas 6.0. great program, i must add.
2.) Pirating movies for profit = lame. i hate people who do it as much as any of you guys probably do. i dont exactly mind if people d/l some movies, but selling them is a waste of time. there are so many other ways to make money (like make your own movies!) and pirating games is just a waste of time. just spend your time to make some money and buy the game. not to mention, it helps the economy.
3.) sony is a BEAUROCRATIC CORPERATE COMPANY, and those people have to jump through SOOOOOOOOO many hoops to get anything done, it isnt suprising they havnt changed it much. they could also just be discouraged that their next protection method will just get cracked by another 15 y/o that they dont even bother to put somthing out there. What if there is some kind of encryption that doesnt work for sony, but could work for private venues? that is exactly what im searching for.
once again, thanks to all those whove helped out. any new developments are appreciated!

seems like there is no solution for protecting your dvd's ?
we know no dvd is copy proof, at least there must be a program that should prevent from two clicks and thats it, its cloned!
i've just read you try Nero lock , but where is that? i have Nero but cant find Nero lock ?
