Had same provlem here. Just changed to my other dvd drive and it worked great. Must be just some dvd drives doesn't work well with it.

In the last three years I have backed up my entire 1,000 plus DVD collection. Entire TV series, Movies, and Home Video. I have (4) 400 DVD Jukeboxes, and ten DVD players, one HD-DVD player, and one Blu-ray player.
I started out using DVDXCopy Platinum, then moved to Decrypter and Shrink, then to AnyDVD when Lighting UK was shutdown. I also use Nero Recode 2, DVDFab Decrypter, CloneDVD 2, RipIt4Me, etc.
I have three Sony drives and they all have updated firmware. I only use TY blank media (or Verbatim for DL).
This problem reminds me of "The Notebook" - hundreds claimed they had no problem, hundreds claimed it was impossible (all having the exact same problem). I wish someone could explain how this problem appears to recur a few times each year.
If bad discs were made, there would be a lot more random backup issues. If people had scrathed discs or bad drives, the problem would be random as well.
Since I have the latest version of every program and the latest firmware and tried all three burners, I can only guess my disc must be defective (in the exact same spot as every other user with the same problem). I guess I'm not an expert on mass production of DVDs, so I can't comment.
While I yapping I do have one question - recently my DL backups on Verbatim DL discs are having problems: The menus are not working, the FBI warning message is looping, the movie won't start, or the movie freezes. If I use Nero Recode 2 to record "main movie only", use "two passes" during analysis, and burn using the DVD-Rom option, then my backup works fine. Did Verbatim switch their supplier?

i used to have problems backing up dvds with dvdfab decrypter .... till i realize that the problem was that i had AnyDVD running on the background and once i removed it completely from my pc i never have have any problems..

I guess some people like all that crap on their disc I used to copy the whole disc but had problems so I only copy the Main movie now my backups are easy less compression on cheap ( Verbatim DVDR- 16x on sale 13.99 for 50 ) SL disc they look great !

When I tried to rip it with AnyDVD(v 6.0.9.5) it would get an error at about 47-48%, when it was copying VOB_6_3 (part of the main movie), when I tried it with DVD Shrink(w/AnyDVD in the background) I got a CRC error in the same spot. Same happened here..it froze on my Plextor PX-740A w/DVD Decryptor|AnyDVD 6102 and when I switched using my Memorex drive w/DVD Dectryptor}AnyDVD 6102 I was able to rip it.

lil 1 - thanks for the input. I used your exact method with no luck. I have tried every method provided by every member of the forum (in this thread). I have even used several different spindles of TY and Verbatim discs. I have been doing this for a long time and usually get past the problem with help from the forums. In the past few years there have only been a handful of movies that I was not able to backup - "The Notebook" comes to mind.
I will chalk this up to a bad batch of discs - all of us having the exact problem, have the same batch of bad discs. Some quality error during production.

You must have something running in the background that's causing problems. Currently all the rippers out there can do this movie.
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

I guess anything is possible.
I have an older PC that was my original DVD burning PC, and I tried backing up this movie on that machine as well. That old PC has a brand new, clean install of Windows XP and nothing else but Shrink, AnyDVD, and DVD Decrypter installed.
My newer PC has been burning every movie out there. I buy at least two DVD's per week and back them up as soon as I peel off the three security seals. The original goes in my fireproof safe and the copy goes in my DVD Jukebox.
Why would this ONE movie cause me problems?
I need to wipe this new PC and reinstall everything - maybe this will be my reason to get that done...

Thanks rbrock, I tried RipIt4Me as soon as I saw it listed in this thread (the week the movie was released on DVD). I had the same problems with this program as with the others. This is what I tried so far with no luck:

Shrink
Decrypter

RipIt4Me
Ripping to HDD with Explorer
Every one of these programs is updated to the most current version. My drive's firmware is updated. My discs are TY. I used two PCs and three different drives.
This seems like the problems many people had with:
The Forgotten
The Notebook
Little Black Book
She Hate Me
I can't remember if everyone of these movies stayed a problem - I think some may have been fixed with a PSL file created by Lightning UK. I remember he would send out a copy of the PSL file when he started seeing problems in the forums. Then he would update DVD Decrypter.
My question remains - why is everyone having the EXACT same problem in the EXACT same place on the disc? A dirty disc would cause problems in different spots, same with a bad disc. Something I have running in the background may be different than what someone else is running in the background, so wouldn't the problem be more varied.
I would like to thank everyone who participates in these forums. It's a good sign that so many people are willing to share their successes and failures.
