The Sony is problematic this is one reason why people are wary of it plus it was a lot dearer when it first came out, prices have dropped but pionner is still the best buy, wish I'd have got that now since I've had three sony drives (all broke)and about to get this one replaced !!!. __

Some mornings I wake up grumpy other mornings I let her sleep !!!

I have burned several dvdr's without a single coaster.... i have used memorex brand dvdrs and imation aswell as verbatims. I am pretty sure it is compatible with all blank medias.

I've had three sony drives and have about 40 coasters in total .

When it works it burns dvd's fine even on the outer edges of the disc, even when burned on crap media

I'm just a worst case scenario seeing as I'm returning my third drive and opting for the pioneer this time !!!

Yokozo,

You would probably by now know that:
Most Pioneer dvd burners(including A06) can upgrade their firmware to RPC-1 (multi region free), where as Sony 510u has firmware in RPC-2 only(not multi region free).

Check the website http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/ out

Thats simple to bypass - DVD Region free !!!

I use that alongside DVD Decrypter to rip region 1 dvd's and to play them through PowerDVD/Media Player .

Just a quick question:

Has anyone tried to back up their DVD movie ? How long does it take to back up a 2hr movie at 4X speed ? And how cheap can you get the DVD 4x blanks ? The 4X blanks I find is still kinda expensive, like $3 each, so $6 to back up your own movie.

Price depends on quality + quantity.

Bulkpaq Orange Top £1 each
Datawrite red top 79p
Datawrite White Top (ritek Dye) £1.30 (£92 for 100)

Ritek £1.30 same bulk price as above.

This is from a local shop , so you could probably get them cheaper online , since your working in dollars I'm unsure of any sites based in US/Canada
