Well i started to play FFVII on my 3.40 OE-A psp. Everything was going fine until an enemey that was like a blue blowfish casted "hell bubbles". Then all these garbage colours messed up the entire screen. From then on every battle, menu and text box was like that; just garbage. Its completely unplayable like this.

I will experiement around with some settings to see if it makes a difference. EDIT: it didn't.

If anyone makes any progress let us know ;)

Regards,
Bobby.

EDIT: judging by lorpdpaco's last post, it seems to me that the problem lies with the rip of the game and not the firmware. I also just read on another forum that a guy with the same problem formatted his memory stick and put FF7 on it again and the problems were fixed.

The huge number of people posting probs with 3.40 OE-A and FF7 as of late is probably simply because of the recent downgrader. A lot of people were waiting for that downgrader, and when it came out they went to 3.40 OE-A and i bet a lot of em did that mainly to try ff7 :)

I will btry formatting my memory stick and then putting the eboot back on, and on saturday will also test the game on a 3.03 OE psp.
I will let you all know how i get on.

Regards,
Bobby.

IT WORKED!

I am so glad :)

Anyone who is having trouble with FF7, please try this!

1) copy your savegame somewhere.

2) go to your psp and format the memory stick

3) copy over the necessary FF7 files including your savegame.

SPECIAL NOTE: If any of your ff7 discs come in 2 parts do this:
First of all make sure you have WinRAR installed if they come in .rar format.
Click the first part (eg FFVIICD1Part1.rar) then hold shift and left click the 2nd part.
Right click either one then extract them to a different folder.
Move this exact folder to your PSP inside the GAME folder.
(I am not sure if this is necessary, but i did this the second time around, maybe it fixed something.)

I hope this works for everyone, that would be really great :)

Post your questions/comments!
Regards,
Bobby.

EDIT: really sorry for getting everyones hopes up..... It WAS working but the freezing/garbage colours has started to happen again.... god damn. Although it appears to be much less frequent. It was a guarantee to happen last time but not anymore. Let me know if this works for you.

the problem has to do with the PS1 emulator that's used, and the popstation... i think. my understanding is, correct me if i'm wrong, that when you use a popstationGUI, it takes an .ISO of a psx game and creates an EBOOT file that includes the image and sony's PSX emulator to boot it. and i'm fairly certain that the emulator installed in the eboot depends on the popstation you're using. for example each newer version of zingaburga's uses the emulator from a newer sony firmware version. i tried using an older version of zingaburga's popstation to convert the .ISO to an eboot, but it just kept showin up corrupted data and i got frustrated. i have now downgraded from 3.40 to 3.30 and then to 3.03 oe-c. but by the time i got to 3.03 my gamesaves were fucked up, so i couldn't test it by jumping right in where the crashes took place. i'm about to give up and start back over at the beginning of the game with a fresh install on 3.03oe-c. if i get to shinra building and it crashes i may kill myself.

Yea i'm doin the same thing right now...downgraded 2 3.03 oe-c an started over. Im in the shinra buildin again...64th floor...so far no problems at all except the battle intro swirl doesn't show ne more. hell bubbles didnt screw it up either so im hopin it'll work this tyme...

HA!! The enemy used sleepel an nothin happend! the game continued 2 run fine! it might b the new FF7 im usin or it could b the firmware im in but either way IT WORKS!!!......for now. imma keep playin an c if any issues occur...

Oh an CW Cheat doesn't work with it 4 sum reason. It works With FF VIII an all ma other psp games. I REALLY dont want 2 mess around with it cuz itz finally workin...

Thanks for the info guys.
Btw lordpaco i hear there is a way to make your FF7 saves "universal", so that they work with any EBOOT of it? Something thats done in popstation i think?

Anyway i think if Hell Bubbles doesnt screw up the game nothing will. ( The blue floating puffer fish-like enemies in the subway at the beginning of the game do this)

I will be able to test the game on 3.03 OE tomorrow, here's hoping :)

Bobby.

dudes dudes- the solution here and what everyone needs is the plug-in dark_alex made, popsloaders- you install it and it allows you to run 3.40oe-a and SELECT which pops firmware you want to boot your psx game with. i tried it today, it looks like it's working. all i need now to complete the solution to the ff7 bug is to figure out how to convert the gamesaves to a format readable in 3.03-3.10. i experimented a bunch, my gamesaves are only readable if i'm running the 3.40oe pops. when i switch back to 3.10 on the fly (bug free version) i can't load the game!! and cwcheat can't load the memory card. that trick seems to only work between 3.40oe and 3.30oe.

the version of popsloader that DAX made does not include all the other firmware version for his own legal security, the idea is you need to install them and dump the critical files yourself... but i have a pack that includes all of them that you can just unload and install and then for any psx game just select the firmware to pops it with. i don't know if i should post it here, mods tend to get mad.

but:

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=48695

here is DAX's official thread for the popsloader he made, and if you scroll over a few pages, a link for the firmware pack is on there.

so GOOD NEWS: FF7 battle glitch, problem solved.
BAD NEWS: ... if you don't mind starting over from scratch. i was on disc 2 =[

SOMEONE FIND OUT HOW TO CONVERT 3.40 POPS GAME SAVES!!! (to 3.10 or lower.)

alright i got it.

FF7 is fixed.

http://cwcheat.consoleworld.org/CWCHEAT_0_1_7_REVC.RAR

install THIS VERSION of cwcheat, because apparently revision D doesn't work for this.

after that install popsloader and overwrite the old pops.txt.

then open pops.txt and add this line:

ms0:/seplugins/cwcheatpops.prx

we do this so popsloader and cwcheat can run simultaneously.

reboot to recovery mode and make sure both are enabled.

then fire up ff7 and if it's the first time you're doing so with popsloader installed you should get a menu to select which version- run the "original flash." presuming you're psp is running 3.40oe a, which it should be. get to the new game/continue screen and hold select for 3 full seconds to load CWCheat.

go to manage memory cards > save memory card slot1

it should say "last operation ok!".

now exit ff7 and get back to the XMB, and reload ff7 again, this time holding down R while you do it.

you'll get the pops firmware menu again, this time select either 3.11 or 3.10

now as SOON as the playsation logo goes away, hold select. if your game isn't loading, try it sooner. but anyway, hold select to bring back cwcheat and go to manage memory cards > load memory card from slot1.

you should NOW be running ff7, in 3.40oe, without the battle glitch, and your gamesaves preserved.

Thanks for the advice.

I am having one small problem though...

I am at the point where i have to hold down the R trigger while loading FF7.

Then i choose 3.10 in the popstation menu, and my psp shuts off?
I have tried choosing 3.11, waiting different times before holding R and select etc but the same thing happens. It also shuts off if i do nothing. The psp logo never even comes up.

EDIT: The game also hangs at the "This game has been compressed for psp...." screen for way longer (like 22 secs instead of 7) before the psp shuts itself off.

EDIT2: Oh man THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!! ( I forgot 1 step and it works now )This deserves to be stickied! Many peoples main reason for downgrading and using custom firmwares was to play FF7 on their psp!
When a battle starts there now though it just freezes for a sec then goes straight into the battle. But this is nothing :D

@pspower: As far as i am aware there is only 1 version of popstation out at the moment. I just googled it and it worked fine. Btw check page 4/5 of lordpacos forum link for a necessary file

You need the prx files.

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=48695&page=4

go to page 4 of that link, third post down. There is a download there.
Put all the files onto your psp under seplugins/popsloader.~

Then you are ready to go :)
