Sorry Mattpasa - I did misread your post - thought you had tried that 1 firmware.
Ok well looks like progress - almost made it.
So do this - id both of the cd brands you have tried.
Pop one of the Imations in the drive then go to SmartStart and under ToolKit pick CD-DVD Speed. Go to the disc info tab to find the manufacturer. Do that also for the other brand you have tried.
If you don't have a blank you can use one that you've already tried.
Post back the manufacturer on both.
Post back the last log too.

Well we can't rule out the media - so try another brand like Sony or made in japan only Maxell. Neither of these are made by CMC.
Try taking the burn speed dow nto 32x or even 24x - see if that helps.
I wish we could figure out what program is using that Roxio driver to remove that to see if it's causing a problem.

The Sony cd did not work either :(
The Sony came up with the same error as the first time.
It also came up with the error at 5% like the first time...
Argh, we're gettin closer and closer to having to re format as the solution, i really do not want to do that though..

Try another burning program like real media or windows media player to make an audio cd - rule out Nero.
Anything change pc wise since this problem starting happening?
May not help but can't hurt - uninstall the drive in device manager -reboot and let windows reinstall it. Right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager. Click the + next to dvd/cd drives then right click on the drive and pick uninstall.
Keeping up on pc maintenance bit like disc defrag, disc cleanup and virus scans?

windows media player cannot detect my ddv drive for some reason :S
i tried uninstalling the dvd hardware and reinstalling..
once it rebooted i tried nero again, a data disc worked :D They did not previously work..
So i then tried to make another audio one with nero...
It reached 100%.. then the 'Could not perform Disc-at-once error came up again :( :( :( lol
and yes i run antivirus and cleanup programs daily.
Nothing different happened to my computer that i know of....
Ca you recomend any other burning programs that i can try??

Hmmm the only program I use to burn audio cd's are Sonic (a roxio product), WMP, Real Player or Nero.
WMP should detect your drive.
Check this go to control panel>administrative tools>services then scroll down til you find IMAPI CD-Burning Com Service. Double click on it and under startup type set it to manual if it's not already.
Can you post a pic of your add/remove programs? I'd like to try and figure out what program installed the Roxio driver to see if that's causing the conflict.
The cd that got to 100% (dang why couldn't it just finish it!) may still be playable - check it in a player. The last song may be screwed up and not play.

well the cd that got to 100% works pefectly well, (even the last track!) so i dunno what was wrong there lol
That settings thing was already set on Manual.

Ok - nothing really pops up in add/remove that would use this Roxio driver. It may have been a leftover from something you uninstalled (?)
If that's the case running the zap tool may help.
Do you have another pc you can try this drive in to burn an audio cd - to see if it's a conflict in your pc?

well see this is the thing, we bought 3 computers, all exactly the same...
now when i first tried to burn an audio cd, it didnt work on mine or the study one, but it worked on my brothers...
so i dont understand what could be wrong as they are all exactly the same drive and computer

Yep the zap tool I posted earlier. I'd set a restore point before you run it.
Hmmm 2 don't work for audio cd's but 1 does - now the ? is what's the diff between them. What the make and model of the pc?
I'll see if I can dig something up.

we bought the one on the top row, 5 to the right, called Core2 Duo E6550
the only difference is that we upgraded all the motherboards to e6600 and the dvd drives on all of them to the pioneer one that we have been trying to fix... lol
i will try that zap tool tomorow, as i was just leaving now :)

sorry for the extremely late reply...
ok first off i tried the zap tool, when i run it, it asks if i would like to ZAP Easy CD Creator 4 or 5. so i click yes, agree to the terms then it asks me to reboot. so i click yes and it reboots, but the problem is, when i run the zap tool again, it asks the same thing...
i havnt tried a cd yet, as i dont think the zap tool is removing it properly..

Hmmm ok - try burning w/ ImgBurn.
Now this program won't do an audio cd like Nero but it's free and usually conflict free. It might not play in a player but should be recognized and accessible by the drive after it's burned.
Use the build mode to add the songs you want to burn.

when i press on build, it asks me to save it as a .iso file...
am i supposed to do this and then use the iso to burn it onto a cd??

Click on the disc looking icon under destination.
This will change the destination to your burn and the files you add will be burned.
