Well, how would it differ from what you do? Rather than burn DVDs, I keep everything in digital format. Why do you think I have a fileserver? :)

I don't, I use a 30" PC monitor... :)
My server is 1.9TB in size, but one of the drives is going to be RMAed, so currently 1.5TB.

Various. It covers standard def films, TV episodes etc in Divx, Xvid and WMV, and covers High Def Films and TV in MKV/x264, DivxHD AVIs and TS.
It also stores numerous games and software apps. It uses some of the components I used to house in my main gaming PC, so with a better graphics card it can essentially be used as a temporary gaming PC. (X2 4200+, 2GB DDR1, Hiper 580W Type-R PSU, Asus A8R-MVP motherboard).
The Hard drives I use are:
Western Digital WD5000AAKS x2
Samsung Spinpoint T166 HD400LJ x1 (being RMA'ed)
Western Digital WD2500JS x2

I used to have an additional Samsung SP2504C and WD5000AAKS which were damaged by a faulty power splitter cable, so if I have them repaired I could potentially have 2.65TB.

It all depends what sort of quality you go for. The standard 'good bitrate' for standard def TV/films is 175MB for a 22 minute USTV episode, or 700MB for a 90 minute film. Higher for longer films, since being able to fit them onto CDs is irrelevant... :)
For High def stuff, 720p rips should be around 3GB/hour minimum, 1080p rips should be about 5.5GB/hour minimum.

It's up to you, if it's a standard def film keep it around the 1GB mark.

i receive the hd placed it in the second slot.was not showing up. it was not in device manager either. i put the cable where you said and it did not work. so i remove the orange cable one next to the blue one and i lost the dvd dive and gained the wd hd now. it looks like those 3 empty ports are not working? is that possible?

EDITcould this just be from a jumper issue? master slave

this pic is before i move the sata connectors

i turned on the sata port 3 in bios . put back the connectors in the order i found them from factory.
it all is working now. i have both harddrives and both dvd drives back.
wow that was a really easy fix..
i hope this is the last two question on this but we will see

1 Do I need to change the boot up on this new drive it is list last in bios menu after usb ports?

2 How can i get the boot screen to stop so i can take a pic .There is something that caught my eye. i would like to post it and see if there is a concern.

edit spelling
thanks again.....

Stop the POST screen? Go to the BIOS and turn on 'halt if no keyboard'. Then restart the PC and unplug the keyboard. The PC should go "Keyboard error!" and stop in its tracks.
