Yea, I know what you mean. There's a store here in my town that usually has the best prices on tv's, DVD's, etc. compared to these bigger retail chains such as BestBuy and Circuit City, you will find that in their tv section, they have the lights basically cut off to make the screens look better then what they actually are. Me personally, I want to see what the thing looks in normal lighting conditions, having all the lights off doesn't really give you a good idea. If a tv is really up to par on it's specs, it will look great in a well lit area. They really don't like when you go in there and mess with the picture settings.

Ok this is the deal, just wanted to thank everyone for your opinions and help. I looked side by side at the Sony and Mits, then i was turned onto the new technology REAL and TRUE RYU 500,000:1 contrast ratio Samsung LNT4681F and it blew them all away, colors better than a plasma, no burn in, protectice glass over the LCD screen , absolutely amazing. When i hooked it up to a Blueray it was the best looking picture i have ever seen. Its true there is no 120 hz for sports but like i said it is new technology and they use something called LED Motion Plus which is either just as good or better, you see NO trails from a hockey puck or football or basketball. I am glad i waited.

Thanks all,
Blank

Good to hear, how much did you end up paying for that model? From what I've seen it looks to be pretty expensive.

The Samsung LNT4681F that you mentioned does have 120hz refresh rate. According to here... http://www.brandsourcedirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=49

Blnkstare, I am not denying that the Samsung looks brilliant and I believe that it is the best picture you have seen. However, I will still stand by my disbelief of the 500,000:1 contrast ratio. There are many articles relating to the methods companies are using to inflate these numbers. The unfortunate thing is that many companies are using these techniques to make the numbers look better. Some companies more than others!

Here's a couple more realistic figures for you...

Sony's KDL46XBR has a 2,200:1 contrast ratio, although that is not a dynamic contrast ratio as they only list the on screen ratio. Here it is on their website... http://www.sony.com.au/homecinema/catalo...ategoryId=22400

Sharp's LC46D83X has a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1. Here it is... http://www.sharp.net.au/catalogue/products.asp?goto=LC46D83X

How is it that Samsung have found a way to improve this 50 times over? If you are referring to the LED technology which states that no light leaking occurs. How is it that the leaders in Plasma technology (where light leaking isn't even an issue as Plasma TV's don't have any backlight at all!) don't even claim such a high contrast ratio?

Pioneer PDP-LX508A has 20,000:1. Here... http://www.pioneer.com.au/products/home_...anel/index.html

Panasonic Viera TH-50PX70A has 10,000:1. Here it is... http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=3838

I am in no way trying to lessen the value and excitement towards your purchase. I am sure it's an amazing piece of Home Entertainment equipment. I just like to keep it real. I can only hope you don't believe everything advertising tells you... I know I don't! :-D

Blnkstare, it's totally up to you what you believe but my statement is coming from research and an understanding of the technology used to manufacture these panels. I have included 3 separate sources explaining what I was trying to say. There are many more articles I could post but I think 3 should be enough. The first article actually mentions Sony's upcoming OLED (1,000,000:1). Have a read my friend...
