No. It was a legitimate question.
The reason that I asked is that I see 8X TY on sale in emails regularly.16X not much. So, I wanted to figure out whether it was worth the extra cost to buy 16X.

I would think that a moderator would have better things to do than insult forum members.

My bad, it wasn't meant as an insult, it was just a fairly strange question that (seemed to) get stranger with the more answers you received.
Apologies but I thought i'd answered the bizarre yield question (even though my request for clarification of this yield wasn't forthcoming), and that's the bit that made me feel like it was some kind of online survey. I thought i'd helped during the thread but maybe not after all. No problem, i shall steer clear of such threads in future :)

i dont see it as insulting a member. he is right in what he stated. after the the same question asked multiple times and being answered each time it did sound like a "daft survey"

if you wanted to know if it would be better to buy 16x media instead of 8x meida cause of price that should have been the question.

as stated by everyone that replied. it depends on each and everyones system and preference. most everyone here that uses 8x TY's burn them at 8x and have no problems.. thats that, no problem.

@Yak
One factor which has not been addressed yet, some of the older standalone DVD players do not like the faster 16X media so the older 8X media maybe a "safer" choice for projects which are destined to be played on a multitude of players. Just my 2˘ worth.
Another facet to this argument,

and the difference in burning time between 16X and 12X is 25%?

the difference in burning time between 12X and 16X is really not that noticable. Say less than a minute or so. If you watch the actual burning speed on IMGBurn or Nero, you'll notice that the burner starts off at a slowerpace, then builds up to full steam later on during the burn. But, my final recommendation is to try different media and different burning strategies and adopt the one which suits your needs the best.

I love "quoting" you creaky. :) They're always good and no matter how many times I read them it makes me LOL. ;)

@ the OP.

I'll thro my 2˘ as well. :) I haven't had a coater in eons burning at 8x!! If that equates to 99%+ then so be it. ;) I burn at many speeds from 8x to 20x and very seldom get a coaster at any speed. Of course like someone said it depends on your setup and if you're messing with stuff while burning. I normally leave it alone while burning but I'm not the daredevil that creaky is. heheehe. :P Of course he has a clean running Quad atm so that has something to do with his ability to "mess" with things whilst burning. :)

I'm with Cinyrob on this. I didn't take it as Creaky trying to insult you. It was an honest perception of the thread and the direction it had taken based on the answers given and the questions posed.

WEll again I'll add my 2˘. ;)

If creaky was intending to "insult" you would know it. He's very good at it and only does it when the occasion NEEDS it. ;)

As to your line of questioning it was a little "different" and therefore the reason for the "round about" answering. :D

I'll say it again... It depends on your setup. Give my your ODD (optical disc drive) make and model and I'll let you know how it will burn different media assuming you have a decent computer and it's clean and lean. :)

Trust me on this, an insult from Creaky is a mark of distinction. Many deserving souls go their entire lives without such an honorable bestowment. If he had insulted you, you would know.
I had to read your post several times to catch the drift of what you were seeking.
Here is a great forum to see different burners, media and burning strategies at work, with quatifiable numbers to back up their arguments.
