u shouldnt waste ur time with trying to return it i dont think that any1 is dumb enough to replace it sorry. what u can do is sell it on ebay for like 150 bucks people will buy it. i went on ebay looking for a v1.0 and i saw sum1 had a broken screen psp was selling it and it got like 24 bids. if ur psp is broken beyond use then u have lossed 250 bucks plus tax. what its still good for is the parts. save it if its broken i think that in the near future the way people dumped the firmware u will be able to flash it. if that works flash the firmware and sell that. iof it is broken in pieces and EVERYTHING is all messed up then u lossed it all. sorry for all the bad news.

Man i know that must be a pain to get your screen cracked. That is my worst fear is to have my PSP in my book bag and get it stepped on and the screen cracked. You might try to get a replacement screen, but they too are pretty expensive. I think i saw replacement screen for $150 online when i googled once. That is still cheaper than buying a new PSP. I am not sure but i think a friend said something about Sam goody at one time haveing a warranty you could buy with the PS2 and Xbox when you purchased it. You might want to see if they offer a warranty for the PSP that would cover accidental damage by the owner. If you find anywhere that would cover it to that extent you could buy another one and then try the take back thing a few weeks later. I can tell you already walmart (the master place of taking things back for returns) is not going to work in that case. If you happen to pull it off somewhere you could always sell the other second PSP on ebay and get you money back. Probably not worth the trouble but the choice is yours. Buying a replacement screen is probably your best option.

lxhotboy, nice idea there but i got sumthin to add :-P
just buy the new psp and get the accidental damage warrenty or wuteva. dont open that box on the new one. get the replacement for the already broken one, then u will have two psps, a repaired 1 and a brand new facctory sealed one. get the receipt from the other store that u bought ur old 1. return the unopened psp to them and get ur $250 back. then just keep the replaced psp. :D this should work! hope it does 4 u!

Xstation3 Do you know of exactly which stores have the accidental damage warranties. I said sam goody but i am not certain if it is them that does it or not. Is there any other places that have similiar warranty options. Maybe circuit city???

If ur going to buy a second PSP you hould defently buy the exstended warrenty. But you need to think like a store would. You need to take the new PSP barcode/serial number off which is located at the bottem of the PSP and put it on the broken PSP. This would have the serial numbers matching on the New PSPs bow and on the broken PSP. Let me know if you don't understand> I will try to think a better way to describe it if you don't understand.

O, Sorry guys i didnt read the whole Four when I last reaplyed! Yes you defently need to change the serial number! Don't worry it wony look like it was tapered whith if your careful. Trust me my freind did it once whith his Gameboy. You can get the extened warranty at Best Buy-2 year $40, Walmart-1 year $25, Circut City-2 year $40. Not sure about sam goodie. Don't get it from Gamestop they wont take anything back!!!

The barcode on the system is also the ID of the system.(it is programed in to the unit and also on the board, and chips). I know this because I worked for Target and someone tried that all ready (it worked once and then they caught on with the guy). Sony told us not to take it back but tell them to send it right to them(this way they can check to see if it is legit).

If it's just a problem of sticky buttons you can simply take your psp apart by removing every accessable screw (dont forget under the battery) , remove the buttons and clean the connectors underneath with alcohol and cotton swabs. Mine had the same problem with the L button, and that's what I did. Now unfortunatly the analog drags down and right and some other buttons don't work either. I think I got a virus from using the 2.xx web browser on my 1.5 psp. My heart is now broken so if anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah, I guess I should try a 3rd party repair shop. Sony said it would be $89.00 for them to send me a refurbished one, but they can't guarantee what firmware version will be on the replacement. That would mean if I end up with the wrong firmware I'd have to spring for the $100 mod chip. Then since I've never installed a mod chip, I'd have to spend X amount to get it installed. I wonder if my PSP even has any hope. I tried installing the 2.0 firmware that I got off another site but it wouldn't install. I think I'm going to go rent GTA LCS, try the update. See if it helps, if not send it to a 3rd party repair shop and see what happens. sniff, sniff, waaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
