I have a Dell 4600. 865 chipset. I do have a agp slot. I would like to upgrade to an x800 xl but i am not sure if my pc can handle it.

according to this link http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-2721-325-1-2-x you have an ati 9800 pro whose spec is http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9800/radeon9800pro/specs.html the only problem you might have is your power supply might not be powerful enough. what is the stated watts marked on the power supply case??

Im going to start over with all of this. All i have is onboard graghics, which I know suck pretty bad. I never really had a problem when I just was playing web games and surfing the net. Recently I have purchased games like tiger 2005, madden 2005, etc. I really not into playing games like doom 3, half life, etc. The problem i have with tiger is that freezes up and frequently has glitches. I would like to play the game without all that and to be able to turn on some of the features of the game. I would be willing to spend the $ for a x800 xl but do I really need that much of card? Dell told me that I could run any 8x agp card. I dont know how much to trust them.

What u suggest i do is bump up my ram and forget the video card? What about getting a new psu. Is that affordable?

the problem is if a standard psu will fit the tower & be compatible with the motherboard. standard psu atx connector has 20pins whereas the dell might have 24pins. 512meg of ram is plenty unless doing photoediting or whatever.

with what I have would it be worth it for me to upgrade to a video card just for playing sum of the newer games? I would like for the games I play, like tiger 2005 to look a little more realistic. But I dont want to have to reconfig my whole pc.

depending on how much money you are willing to spend plus using parts off the dell computer. get a new clone case with 350+watt psu, a motherboard that will take your cpu, ram & videocard. use the cpu, ram, hd, rom drives from dell computer. this gives you more upgradeability.
