Hi all, I'm trying to think ahead here and want to start upgrading my current PC. I'm looking for a motherboard that supports the new PCI-E x16 standard but that will also be compatible for a AMD 64 3200+ CPU. Also do the PCI-E boards still support AGP 8X graphics cards?

Thx,

Dan

Well i dont know to much in this field, but i remeber reading an interview with some guy from the pentium motherboards company that they would still have one agp slot, and one PCI-E slot, so i would probably count on it.. sorry i couldnt help you more, and i hope this helps, some what.

I don't know if there are any AMD compatible boards with PCI-E and AGP, nor do I care because AGP is being quickly phased out. Try an ASUS A8N-E..

Thx guys. I'm mainly interested in the PCI-E to hold my shiny new BFG 6800 Ultra 512 PCI-E card.............when I've saved enough cash that is. I was just curious if the mobo's were backwards compatible but it's not a neccesity. I just didn't want to make my AGP BFG 6800 Ultra OC obselete just yet!

PCI Express boards do not have the AGP slot. That is the whole point of PCI-Express! AGP - 8 x or 4x transfer rate. PCI Express - 16x transfer rate.
Have you had a look at websites selling the different types of mobos? Pictures usually accompany the words. (Sorry I got a little sarcastic then!) I love Google!!

Kind regards, hope I did not offend too much!!

as pulsar said, you'll either have an agp or pci/e but not both. also agp is going bye bye & being replaced with pci/e on new motherboards

You can still sell that AGP 6800Ultra for some good cash, just make sure it's before the 7800 series comes out!
