HP Telling me to run in PSI Mode Not DMA???

Ok I was just wantting to know whats up with this. I have a HP DVD Writer 630i (it's really made by benq) Well i've been having alote of error's with it Lockings up computer, bad bruns, And other typs of errors. So I Call HP help and they where telling me to take it off DMA and make sure its in PSI Mode, well I did that and now it works fine. It just takes a really long time to brun a disc and it really lags my computer down and I can't do nothing elas. I was wantting to know why PSI Mode worked and DMA is messing up (i used it in DMA Mode about 5 months before i had a prob)

So would I be correct in assuming that when the drive was in DMA mode you multitasked while a disc was burning? If I am correct then that may very well be your problem - you should leave the PC alone when burning a disc since ample system resources are critical when burning.

What happens if you burn a disc in DMA mode while leaving the PC alone?



We could also benefit from knowing,

- Your PC specs.

- Make/model burner and firmware version.

- Brand/type media being used and what speed they're being burned at.

- Error logs from whatever burning app your using.

I got a Compaq Presario with a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.20GHz With 1024MB of RAM. OS Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2. When I brun a disc and just leave the computer alone it will still error out the same as it dose when i'm there with it

My Burnner is a HP DVD Writer DVD630i, But i've been told that its really made by BenQ. Most of the time i burn at max couse it won't let me change it on Nero Recode SE or on recordnow!. My FW is CH16

I don't got a error log right now maybie is a few days when i bruns some more dvd's.

I concur that the specs are more than enough and you're using the two best media available so those factors can be ruled out. Let's start with a couple basic, easy to do steps that can cure a surprising amount of problems,



1) Reinstall Nero using Nero Clean Tools before reinstalling. Here's a link to Nero Clean Tools:

2) Uninstall your drive through device manager. Here's how:

Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.

I just did a quick check on the firmware and according to http://forum.rpc1.org your drive is an OEM Liteon SOHW-1633S for which there aren't any updated firmwares (as of yet). Here's the link for future reference:
