My pioneer 108D stop burning at the rated speed based on the type disc u are using. When I use a Sony 8X disc it was buring at 16X. I have the lastest firmware installed. It will only burn at 2X speed regardless of the type disc i use. I do not understand why I am having this problem. I tested the same disc (sony) on a 106D (and it burn at the rated speed of 4X. I also tried to re-installed the firmware update but the system said it was already installed. I am running firmware FW120B. Can anyone help me with this problem. Is my drive dead?

Many Thanks in Advance!!!

Sounds like to me you are running in PIO mode and not DMA;
Need to reset your DMA.
Follow this guide:

Go back to your device manager where you checked your DMA. Then find your burner on the list and remove it also. Then reboot and Windows should reinstall it properly. This will sometimes correct the speed problem with the fresh install of the burner.

Jerry,

I followed the same procedure and also deleted the DVD recorder drive. I restarted - and i am currently recording a disc as i type - (on another pc that is) but it still recording at only 2 times. Again I ask it there something in the drive that is not working correctly? Is the drive dead?

Thanks!!

I bought that burner when it first came out. It worked great, and then slowed to 1x and sometimes slower, and then just quit. It would read great though, so I put it in an exterior USB 2.0 enclosure, and used it to just read discs that I was having problems with. A few weeks ago, while doing some preventative maintenence, I noticed I had a jumper installed in the wrong place. Changed it making it the master, reflashed the firmware, and it burns at a solid 8x, and is no longer fussy about the media. This may not be your problem, but it wouldn't take long to check it out. Regards

I have the Pioneer 108 and the same thing happend to me. It turned out the be the media messing with the Nero. I uninstalled Nero and then reinstalled. All the settings went back to normal. I burned a different media and it worked fine at 8X. So I figured that I fixed the problem, NOPE, as soon as I used the first media it converted right back to not letting me burn any higher than 2X. SO I did it all over again and never used the legacys again and haven't had that problem again.

I hope that helps you.
