What is the max I can set my software to burn a DVD?

I was wondering for burning a movie what is the maximum which i can set my dvd software to, it is by default 4472mb. but ifigure that since dvds are 4700mb, cant i set it to 4650 or something??

4472 is close....... you need room for lead in's and lead out's! Look on the back of your DVD after burning....... is it from edge to edge{inner cirlce to outer circle}? I'd say that's max.

Hi there,
a DVD5 will actually hold about 4.3 Gb.
I think the normal max is around 4464 (Default for DVDShrink).
Most people will stop burning after 4300, so we don't burn to close to the edge.
Burning on the edge causes some playback problems on cheap media.

I just checked Shrink and they have a default of 4464 for DVD-5s.... I would think you would want the best quality..... why try to stuff more into it and take a chance of making a coaster!? thank you Cougar for beinbg more thoro!

I always burn my DVD's at 4464MB (ending at the edge) but I always use 1st class media (Verbs or TY) So I dont think thats a problem...

i still burn at 4300MB even on my treasured Verb's, i burn a lot of films and can't afford coasters, that little bit of space isn't missed

4464 is just fine and I haven't had any probs at all with that setting!!!! When I first started I used to make labels....... I quickly found out what happens when you put labels on DVD-5s! but as far as burning..... I like living on the edge so long as you have good media it's ok! Is anyone having probs with Verbatum or Taiyo Yuden disks at 4464?? So far so good for me!

I use 4464MB without a problem as well, but if you get errors at the end I'd say cut that down a bit. Also you should remember that the outer and inner edges are going to get the most abuse from handling and such, in most cases.

great, thanks for the help... i was wondering something else.... anyone using DVDFab Express notice that it installs a folder named PCSetup to you My Documents folder on install, as well as dvdfabexpress_burn.txt file to your C: when you use the program? from my experience isnt this due to unfinished code?

That is not due to unfinished code..lol ;) that is probbably where the program saves log files (very important for resolving issues) , maybe the program also saves temporary files there, so do not worry about it.

Maybe the program has that C: as default for easy reference, but check if there is any option to change where log files are saved if that bothers you, but you mean it creates a file everytime you burn (so if your burn two times you get two files?)or the files just updates everytime you burn?
