I have read hundreds of messages posted on this board... I am using smartripper and then nero to finalize it to dvd-r. I get the smartripper to burn the files to my hd. After that I try to burn them to nero but after all is said and done the DVD is invalid, not recognized or doesnt work. I am burning with pioneer dvr-a03. I picked Mission Impossible for my practice one since its fairly small... The title of the movie is very telling... any help?

Try the latest DVD Decrypter:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

It can backup your movies to ISO format (if the movie is under 4.36GB) and can burn it back to DVD-R.

I've had mixed results with Nero when performing backups. You may also want to try using a different burner like PrimoDVD.

Keep the burner, this is science and you just need to learn the things -- DVD backupping isn't really as easy as MP3 copying, at least not yet. You need to read tons of guides and learn lots of stuff before you succeed. That's why sites like ours actually exist -- no one would visit our site if everybody could do this stuff without instructions.

One URL that I would recommend:

http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdr-guides.htm

Shouldn't make. Only thing what you must understand is that DVD-Video discs can't normally be copied 1:1 to DVD-R, because of the size limitations -- one DVD-Video disc can contain 9gigs of data (dual-layer) on one side and one DVD-R can only hold 4.36GB of data on one side. That's why you need to tweak..
