Wondering if anyone could come up wi any new ideas on why my connection with Azureus is so poor.
THE FOLLOWING ARE FROM ANOTHER FORUM, JUS HOPING NEW IDEAS MAY WORK!ITALIC TEXT IS ME
Quote:Whenever I'm usinin Azureas or Auto XDCC it really does grind my system to a halt to the point where it's unusable to do anything else and can take anything up to 5 mins to re-start after shutting down the d/load. don't know if it's my system which seems inlikely as I'm using.
P4 3.0Ghz chip
1Mbit connection
XP Pro
Or whether its something completely diff i.e not opening ports correctly. Obviously you'd expect to have to re-boot aft a night of d/loadin jus to gi your system a bit of a lick start but things do seem a little extreme.
Also noticed, never really get a speed above 20kbs which is puzzling.
As said in title, this has prob been asked b4 so aplologies in advance.
Quote:You haven't given enough info for anyone to really help you, unless they had the same problem.
Do you use a router or modem? What other software do you have running? Firewall? AntiVirus? Is it using all your memory or cpu? (use the task manager to find out). When you say it is unusable do you mean your PC or just the internect connection?
Give us a clue.
Quote:On the Azureus settings change the 'max number of connections' to 80 instead of unlimited, see if that helps.
Quote:if you've got sp2 installed, you might have a 10connection limit you have to get rid off, if you're using azureus you can check if the portforwarding works with a tool names NAT/portfw test (or something very similar), it'll tell you a simple yes/no.
do what knighrider set, limit the max number of connections, start with a low number and work your way up till you have problems again.
Quote:Hi, erm yeah sorry bout the lack of info I'll try to do a bit better.
The modem I'm using is a motorola SB5100 surfboard
XP's Built in firewall
Norton NAV 2004 (tried disabling this but made no diff)
CPU Usage flickers between 1% & 4%
PF Usage 252mb Have 512 installed
treeepwood, gotta be honest there m8. You lost me.
On a current d/load on the "my torrents" tab, seeds says 1 (5) & Peers says 55 (96)
Also noticed that generally the upload speed is the same if not higher than the d/load speed.
For a snapshot of what it's currently doing. D/loading 10.8kB/s. Uploading 11.6kB/s Although this does vary, as by the time I'd finished typing D/load had dropped to 7kB/s
The main prob i'm having is. If i wish to d/load i can basically forget running it in the background as it seems to use ALL my bandwidth to the point where it just aint worth using my connection. What I've been doing is just leaving it to do it's thing at night, but have found that when i need to shut Azu down in the morn it can take ages to get a response.
Hope this is enough info & hope it makes sense & should point out that at mo things don't seems as bad as b4 am wondering if its because restarted the system & disabled NAV on start-up in msconfig.
All that aside I'm still concerned at the d/load & upload speeds or lack of them
Quote:Go to www.testmy.net , shut all programs that would use the internet, and run a medium size download test (just to know) and upload test. Set your Max upload speed in Azureus to 80% your upload speed. Sounds like it's taking over your connection.

Gotta be honest, even more confused now. I'd be happy with half the 120.1KB/sec the results say i can achieve.
2 things spring to mind. Either I,ve set something wrong trying to follow portforwards tut on opening ports or it's got something to do with seeds & Peers which I've yet to grasp
