I just bought a BENQ DVD Rewriter (DW1620 pro). Initially burning DVD-R (generic 4X) was about 50% successful but after burning about 10 of these, things started to get worse. For the last 5 DVD-R, i would get the message burned failed at 4x, sometimes at the beginning of the burning stage.

Hope you could help.

PS This is the one of the log of the failed attempts.

The first thing that comes to mind is what is the type of media you are using (brand). Second. have you checked for firmware updates for that model drive. ?

The media is a Generic DVD-R (1-4X) and I had updated my firmware to B7V9 but the burning part was not improving. Now it stopped after only less 10% burning done.

Hi

welcome to afterdawn. a few things I saw in your log and might be the cause of your bad burns:
Quote:
=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 4D040H2 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : BENQ DVD DD DW1620 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
your dma is off on 1 of your drives. go into device manager and turn it on. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DMA.html use this link for assistance in enabling your dma
Quote:

Free physical memory: 59MB (60900kB)
Memory in use : 73 %
memory usage is high. try turning some of your programs running in the background off while using nero. Also with only 223mb of memory might upgrade to at least 512mb as nero is a memory hog while running.

bad or cheap media is causing this error. try using some verbatims or fuji (made in japan) as they are reputable media from your local store.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

chan88, first of all I think it was the dvd media that gave you the problem. What brand of media are you using? Verbratim or TY or Maxell preferred. Lower quality brand dvd media is cheaper but will give you a lot coaster and headaches. Secondly, are you using WindowsXP Sp pack 2??? You will run into problems when using this program with older software.I myself experienced it with window xp sp pack 2 and talking about dvd media always get a quality media such as verbratim, Taiyo yuden or maxwell in order to be on the safe side. Never buy crapper dvd media although it is much cheaper.
I have BENQ DVD Rewriter DW1620pro and DW1620 without problem.
By the way, I do away with windows xp sp pack2 and reinstall window xp sp pack 1 back to solve my problems.
A word of advice, Nero latest ver 66014 is not stable yet and it will give you a lot problems and I would suggest you switch back to the previous version and I hope will solve your problem.
I have tried Nero 66014 and have the same problem even you have the latest update software.

Your drive doesn't like the media. Should be some numbers and/or letters in there too. Not uncommon with poor quality media.

Another sign of garbage media.

Try some better media along with some of the suggestions above. BTW I have Win XP SP2 and Nero and a benq DW 1620 and have never had any problems.

no problem chan88. I try to help where I can to give back the support and assistance that was bestowed on me when I first joined the forum. Stick around and there is a wealth of info that will get you on the right path. Post back and let us know how it goes and the steps you have accomplished. Sometimes based on pc specs a lil more is needed to get you going. Once again welcome to AD.

I have a BenQ 1620 and have always used KHypermedia with zero problems as long as it is 4x or higher. My drive won't write to slower 2.4x media. LOL bought a hundred of them and had to pass them on with my old panasonic DVDR drive to a friend. I use either DVD Decryptor + DVD Shrink + Nero, or to make things heck of a lot simpler I use DVD Xcopy 5. I haven't had any problems since upgrading to version 5. I mostly use it.
