Hi everyone,
I've Googled and downloaded many programs and none can seem to do this seemingly simple task. I purchased a Samsung miniDVD player from Sam's Club yesterday. I am looking for a simple way to convert some existing DVDs to the 8 cm (3inch) miniDVD format. These small DVDs hold up to 1.4 gb of data. I tried using Divx and also the Nero ReCode programs, but Divx files cannot be read by the player. I've also found several programs that compress/shrink DVDs, but they don't quite shrink it enough to fit on the miniDVD, and I haven't found a program with the option to shrink it to fit this small DVD. Can anyone please help??

Thanks

You could try DVD Shrink (it's free), but you're probably going to lose a good deal of quality in the video. Also, DVD-5 and DVD-9 are typically 4.35G & 8.5G respectively. That's alot of compression to a mini-disc. I don't know that there's a software that will do that and maintain quality! Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for your reply!! The quality really doesn't matter much, as the screen is only 2.5 inches!!! I just need to get the compression to such a point that it will fit on a 1.4 gig DVD. Also, I am hoping there is a program that will automate this process. Maybe the mini DVD format is just too new.
Hopefully some other ideas will be out there too.
Thanks!

Ok ...... here is an ideas for you .....

first get a couple of programs some you probobly already have.....

DVDShrink ..... and VOB Blanker and DVD Decryptor.

Step 1 ..... your choice .....Rip the movie to your hard drive using either DVDShrink or DVD Decryptor you will probably just want the main movie so DVDShrink is probably your best choice. If you want to keep your menues then you will need more disks and spend a little more time with VOB Blanker.

Step 2 .....Create a couple of sub directories in your folder with your DVD ..... IE .... Disk 1 , Disk 2 and Disk 3 if you need it. and make a folder in each.......VIDEO_TS ..... spelled exactly like that.

Step 3 .... Now with VOB blanker you can start by opening the movie ..... find the menues if you choose to keep or just the movie. Now blank out all the extra shit you don't want. Work one VOB set at a time and preview it ..... choose what you don't want and select Blank. Once you have it down to what you want to keep and what you don't ..... Pay attention to total size both when you start and final. Final should be about 2.5 - 3 gb in size. If it is still too big which it probably will be ..... start with the VOB with the main movie (the bigest file size) and blank out enough to bring it down to your target size ..... ie .... 2.5 - 3 gb.

Step 4 ...... export this to the folder ..... Disk 1/ VIDEO_TS

Step 5 ..... Repeat the above till you have the hole movie on at least 2 disks .... maybe 3 ....

Step 6 ..... now use shrink to burn you movie on your disks

You choose whether to keep menues on all or not .... depending on the feature you decided to keep .... If all you do is the main title you might get away with one disk .... on a small movie ..... but 2 will be better ..... you will use about 50 - 70 % compression to do this but as you stated tat is not an problem ..... Have fun. Let me know how it works.
