I think psp's sold in Canada are us versions. So the answer is yes.

edit:
I read your question again. By english you mean uk or us? Anyway uk umd's won't work but us will.

Regioncode in japan and europe is 2, so it should be possible. Where you read that? At this point nobody knows it for sure, but we'll see when psp comes out in europe.

To Hell with Movies! What about the Games? Is it true that I can eventually have my Mom or Sis send me US PSP Games over to Germany and then play them on my PSP?

If so... I take my hat off to Sony for finally doing something right!!
Now I really can't wait for Tomarrow!! (Sept. 1st 2005!), I think I'll ask for MVP Baseball and that other Baseball Title I saw on Wallmarkt's website.

BTW: Can someone recomend a good (English Languge), RPG for the PSP??

For now you can play games from all regions. I have a Japanese psp that plays American games. But I don't know if they will change it in the future

Humm... =/

US and JAP Games are both in NTSC (i.e. the same Region more or less), I'd be more intrested to know if you could play PAL Games on your PSP (or viseversa)...

the psp doesn't use NTSC or PAL because it's an lcd screen. It uses regions. America is region 1 and they say japan and europe region 2. This matters for movies but as far as I experienced the psp works with games from every region

That's true for CSS Encoded DVD's. it seems to me that Sonys' UMD Format is another standerd. But, If I can run Games out of the USA (i.e. Imports), on the PSP then I'll be happy. Well that and playing Gameboy ROMS via Emulator. My Mom and Sis and Nephew all have that cruddy DS! Xp yuck. I can't wait to rubb it under there Nose! Here my Zelda?? on the PSP?!!! XD

Yes you can play American games on a European psp for the moment. Because I can play American games on a Japanese psp.
Does anyone know yet if you can play European UMD films on a Japanese psp for sure or has seen it with his own eyes that it definitily works?

Yes Both are German Localized Versions of RidgeRacer (L.) and World Tour Soccer (R.),. You'd think those Yanks would have heard the term 'Football' somewhere? Bah Soccer ONLY IN THE US is the Beatiful Game given such a derogatory Name!

And as you shold be able to clearly see there both Labeled Region 2. So to is the Box My PSP came in. Oddly enough the PSP itself is not Coded with that mark on it. I Guess we shall find out soon enough if the Story on Region Codeing is BS or not. BTW: I'm out of it Been up now for about 36 Hours now (I couldn't Sleep last night, I almost felt childlike anticipatoin like it was Christmass or something! But, what Sony got to say about this? If there really is a 'No Borders' Policy for Games wouldn't Sony want to trumpet that? I Mean it's not like Sony would be loosing any Cash here!

Unfortunatly, all that does is to tell us something that we should've have already known!!! Europe, South Africa & Japan ARE ALL REGION 2!!! That is if Sony is adhering to the standerd DVD CSS rules that is.

So saying a Euro "R2" UMD Movie plays in a Japanese PSP also Region 2, shouldn't come as a BIG SHOCK! to anyone.

If you'd like to try a real test then get a Region 1 (US & CAN), UMD Movie and try that on your PSP. If you can get to work then you've got something to shout about.

BTW: a counter argument about playing 'Out of Region Games'. Some People in here have said that it is possible. And I gather that much of it is true... However all the people I've personaly have talked to (Face to Face), had there PSP's imported from Japan and no one had any Firmware over 1.50. So that's another reasion to hate those with a PSP v1.50. Because it's my understanding that anything newer the 1.50 will NOT PLAY IMPORTS!!!! As $ony closed the Door on that Hole....

Well sooner or later this Crap is going to get Cracked! Then we'll all be able to watch imported UMD Movies. I don't know if Sony are useing the CSS reference for there Movies. But If you Googled up Region 2 DVD's you'd see that all of Europe, South Africa and Japan are all Region 2. So playing a Japanese DVD in my German XBOX (DVD Region 2, Game Region 4), would play back just as if I bought it around the Corner at the Shop. A Region 1 however would not. =(

Thank goodness for Firmware / Remote Code - Hacks for Burners' and Settops!
