I have the a panasonic dmr-hs2 that turns on for about 10 seconds then shuts down with the "bye" message. I have downloaded a service manual but am unable to get any of the service codes to react. There is no dvd in the ram drive. Cannot get the draw to open at all.

Your hard disk is failing. I replaced mine with another 40GB drive and all worked again. I used an IBM 7200 rpm drive and it worked ok.
