wierd pc problem

this wierd problem started a few days ago. i'll be on my pc and suddenly and I can't get online with firefox or internet explorer. My modem is working fine since I can get online with my other pc. I'll even check my bitcomet and the downloads I've got going are still uploading and downloading at typical speeds. so the only way I can browse the net once this happens is by restarting my computer. then everything is normal until it happens again. i reinstalled firefox, ran registry mechanic, and spyware programs and nothing has helped. any ideas?
