Hello, I have been burning dvd for the past 6 months without any problems. I use DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Nero to encode and burn. Normally this would take 13-15 mins for decrypting and the DVD shrink would take 12 mins and then to burn it would take 7 mins. So I was able to burn a DVD within 35 mins.
Now this whole process takes almost 2 hours. The Decrpting takes more than 45 mins, the shrinking time has remained the same approx 12 mins, but for burning with Nero or DVD Decrypter takes almost 35 mins. What I have noticed is that the Buffer level is low around 50%.
My DVD writer is LG 4163B which is capable of writing at 16X however I use 8X TDK DVD-R and the DVD writer can burn a 4.7 Movie within 7 mins.
My PC Spec is AMD Athlon 3000+ (2.2 GHz) 512MB memory, 120Gb hardrive.
Could anyone please help me.

arniebear - Thanks for your reply, very appreciated
My setting before must have changed to PIO but I have changed that DMA setting for both primary and secondary IDE. However this has not solved my problem as the burning process has not changed. I have noticed when burning there is some problem with the buffer, for the first 2 minute it burn at the expected speed with the buffer level at 100 but after couple of minutes the buffer level start flunctuating from 0 - 90.
CreakyB - Thanks for your reply, very appreciated
The blank media is not the problem as I have the same problem with the other blank media such as DataWrite, Infiniti. I thinks it something to do with the buffer.
Mort81 - Thanks for your reply, very appreciated
why do you want me to uninstall the DVD RW drive and channel. What will this achieve. Is this to change the setting back to DMA?. Cos I have already done that and this change has not solved my problems.

It will let windows rerecognize the drive. If it doesn't solve the problem, no damage done. I had a lite-on LDW-451S a while back that was doing the same thing on buffer levels and that solved the problem. I don't care if you do it or not. I'm just trying to help and offer suggestions.
Neither of the other two medias you listed as trying are considered good quality. Media could still be the culprit. Try some verbatum, taiyo yuden, sony, fuji (made in japan), or maxell.
I really don't know why we continue to try to help people when they refuse to try things we ask or suggest. Like creaky said, it would help us to help you if we knew the manufacturer and ID of your media. You can use either of these free utilitys. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Try what I suggested one at a time. If windows doesn't rerecognize it after you reboot go back and reenable.

LG burners are not known for burning at thier advertised speeds.
IE: My GSA-4120B (12X)will only burn at that speed on one!! manufacurer of DVD+R disks otherwise I'm lucky to get 6X.
This is true for almost all LG drives CD or DVD.
Upgrade the firmware is your best bet.

Again Thankyou everyone for helping me out.
Mort81 - Sorry I wasn't trying to be rude. All help is very much appeciated. Thanks. The reason I asked was that I wanted to know how this would change my settings. I now realize that this is the solution to my buffer problem. Thanks Again.
I have uninstalled the dvd drives and also uninstalled the ide controller. I think this has solved my buffer problem. My new time for burning a 8GB movie is 13mins for decrypting, 28 mins for encoding using DVD Shrink. 11 mins for burning using DVD Decrpter. I have also noticed when I was burning with DVD decrpter that it was writing at 6X when it should be writing at 8X. I have also identified the media I am using with the help of DVD identifier. The results is pasted below.

Before my problem occured I used to burn my dvd and 8X blank media and my DVD writer used to be able to burn at 8X but now it only burn at 6X.
Gmsys - Yeah I know what you mean, my DVD writer LG 4163B Claims to be capable of writing at 16X but when I tested this claim by using 16X blank media it was writing at 12X. But this was before my problem started.
However through everyone help here I have managed to bring it up from 2X to 6X. Hopefully I will be able to bring that back to the normal 8X through everyone help.

Shahinali,
Glad to see your burning speed has improved. I need to apologize too, I was kind of in a grumpy mood and get tired of people not doing what we suggest or not giving us the info we request. I think you will find that arniebear, creaky, and myself usually know what we are talking about but we can't help if folks don't do what we ask and provide us with the information we request.
I think you will find that moser baer to be descent media but I would steer clear of the other two. You could also post the manufactures and ID's for those and we could tell youu for sure.
Most here don't burn video files over 4x to reduce the risk of write errors but it would still be a good idea, as stated by gmsys, to make sure you have the latest f/w update. Good luck.
