My hp cd writer dosent work.I have windows media player and when I try to play a dvd or cd it wont do it

try using a cd/dvd disk cleaner. i presume windows sees the drive ok except for playing correct??

windows media says that the cd drive could not be detected

does windows see the drive? check in device manager to see if there is an exclamation mark there

uninstall the drive from device manager, restart windows so it can load its driver

try in safemode to uninstall the drive
