Hey guys. I already looked for this but couldn't find it. Apologies if this has been addressed.

I just got a DVD Recorder/VHS combo (Panasonic - Love it). I took a bunch of old VHS-C tapes of my nephew and recorded them all onto one DVD with my recorder. Now I'd like to take that dvd and make copies for family members on my PC, which would be so much easier than that first process of getting all those tapes onto one DVD.

On my PC I have a DVD writer and I have the following software: DVD Decryptor and DVDFab Gold and something else that came with the computer - Sonic?

But when I put the DVD from my recorder (recorded on DVD+R and finalized) into the computer, my DVD drive on my computer won't even recognize that there's anything in the drive.

1/ Why won't my DVD drive on my computer recognize the DVD I recorded?

2/ Is there any way to duplicate my recorded DVDs without going through the process of dubbing each VHS back onto other DVDs? If so, no one else is getting a copy!!

Thanks for the help.

I have the Panasonic dmr-es30vs - which is likely the model that you have since you used a +R disk, and the older models don't accept those. I am one step closer to success than you are. My computer DVD drives will read the disk, and the writer will burn a copy which will play on the Panasonic, but neither the original nor the copy will play properly on either of my computer DVD drives. When I play this DVD on the computer, it is extremely blocky ( like mosaic ) and unwatchable. Windows explorer shows the size of the files on the disk total about nine gig - which is impossible, of course since the DVD holds less than five. Try to copy the disk on a friend's computer, and maybe yours will play in other standalone players. I haven't tried to see if mine will play in another standalone player. I plan to try to use a program to rip the files from the DVD and re-edit and re-burn. My DVD ROM drive is a Samsung. My burner is a BenQ DW1620. Let me know how you make out.

Yes, Gary - that's the same machine I have.

I have tried playing the dvds in other stand alone players and that part works fine. That's why I can't figure out why the dvd player/burner in my PC won't read it. My dvd burner came with the computer, which is an HP Pavilion a330n.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any friends with dvd burners in their PCs. I'll ask around.

I did send a msg to Panasonic asking their advice, but I haven't heard back. If I do, which I doubt, I will post it here.

Thanks!

The copy that I was able to make on my computer does play on another standalone player - as well as the Panasonic. However I haven't had a lot of success ripping the files in order to edit and re burn a DVD.

... I routinely record TV programs with my LiteOn-5005 (on a DVD+RW disc), then put them on my CPU to edit out the commercials. I use DVD Decrypter (in file mode) and DVD Shrink (in reauthor) ...

.. I have heard of others having troubles with the +R discs produced by Panasonic machines .. and according to Digital FAQ, Panasonic is a brand to avoid ..

Obviously a newbie - but if there is no copyright, why won't my PC burn my homemade DVD? It recognizes the disk and even copies the files. But when it comes to burn - it won't! This is driving me nuts! I'm so happy to make DVDs but I want to share them with family and friends. I'm using Ilo DVDR05 and Nero. Thanks.
