I am using Hades (uses Libread) to decrypt my DVDs. I then use Toast Titanium 6 (under the DVD-Rom setting: always worked w/DVD-R single layer) on Memorex DVD+R Dual Layer disc with my Sony external dual layer DVD+R burner.

I tried to back-up my copy of Appleseed (awesome) and it played on my computer, but not on my Toshiba SD-5980 DVD player with progressive scan (also awesome b/c of upconverter).

To be even more specific: I recieved an error message during finalization of disc burn. After a sputter it finished and asked me if I wanted to verify. I clicked no, and proceeded to mount. Like I said, it played on my Mac G4 from 1999, but not my Toshiba from 2005 lol.

So I am at a crossroads and hope someone can help. I am about to take the Sony back (just bought it at Best Buy) and get the Sony DRX-800UL. It burns both DVD+R & DVD-R Dual Layer discs. However I am unable to locate DVD-R DL for sale. Man I am irrate and would appreciate some thought.

Thanx

PS this is my1st post.

I'd try different media first. Get some Verbatim with Super AZO Dye or Taiyo Yuden if you buy online. Memorex is crap. DL DVD+R still has a fairly low compatibility with standalone players. DL DVD-R is not available yet, but it is in the works.

Thank you for your time squizz.

I did not know Memorex had such a bad rep. I've used them for DVD-R Single Layer uses and did not notice a compatibility or quality issue.

I also found an update for Toast from 6 to 6.1.1 Several fixes were dual layer media related and one in particular mentioned a "seam" issue going from one layer to another. ??????

Needless to say I registered my product and downloaded the update immediately. I am at work so I can't try it out just yet.

I hope the update will cure my problem. As I said the DVD+R DL worked fine on my computer but would not register in my new Toshiba SD-5980. So maybe your suggestion of media might be a cure for my stand alone.

I would think a new DVD player would play something my 6 yr old G4 can, lol.

Anyone with a suggestion please feel free as I have not yet solved my problem, Toast update withstanding.

Well aside from the obvious that squizzle has already pointed out the media beeing crap! try burning your dual layer disk using DVD Decrypter it is much better at handling the layer break than most burning sofware.

Oh yeah as far as I know TY doesnt yet produce DL DVD's your best b et is the Verbatim's the Phillips arent bad either, but the Memorex are the worst and Ritek's DL's arent that far behind them, but I believe that is more of a compatability issue than anything else..

Cheers :-)

I get most of my media from Supermediastore.com
http://www.supermediastore.com/verbatim-94912-8-5gb-double-dual-l...

They are $5.50 there you may want to check meritline.com or rima.com all very good places to buy media.
