I'm surprised there isn't much talk about this machine. Best Buy and Circuit City both sell it for well under $200. Records to DVD-R/-RW and DVD-RAM, and plays back DVD+R/+RW. Has a firewire input which is missing from the Panasonic and Pioneers in this price range. Also has a good, clean stereo tuner which is lacking in the cheap LiteOn, Ilo and Cyberhome models.

European and Asian versions of this Samsung play DIVX discs. It's even in the owner's manual. MPEG 4 is disabled in the U.S. version though. Samsung even removed all mention of it from the U.S. owner's manual. Probably a limitation in firmware to avoid threats from the American movie industy.

European owners have reportedly been able to make their DVDR120 units region-free using a remote control code. I couldn't get it to work for me though. Maybe there's a different hack for U.S. Region 1 machines. It would be good to figure this out, as I think getting into region-free mode would also restore DIVX playback.

Good quality machine with some interesting potential...
