I have backed up alot of my dvd's with dvd-r. I recently bought some dvd+r they are compusa dvd+r 4x 4.7GB 120 min and have an RW logo on them. For some reason none of the backups work not even on my pc of course not on my dvd player it is an apex. My pc drive is a plextor px-716a it says it will play/write all types of media and when i back up my dvd and put it in my pc it says unrecognizable format and my dvd player just says no disk. Am i backing it up wrong or is it the disk. I have tried all types of backup methods. Please any help would be great. Thanks

CompUSA discs are probably most of your problem. They are not known to be made by good manufacturers. Make sure your firmware is up to date - that may help. As for your Apex is either doesn't like the media or can't read +r formats.
In store by Fuji, Sony, Maxell (look for made in Japan) or Verbatim.
Online from reputable stores: Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims.
Also make sure you are not burning on the fly or at max speeds. Both can cause problems.
What backup methods have you tried?

i have tried decrypting with dvdd and then resize with DVD Shrink after that burned with nero/dvdd/and roxio media creator. also have tried several all in one programs. Nothing is working, i know my dvd player will play +R format it has before. If it didnt my dvd drive should but it says something like unrecognizable format. I don't know what you mean by firmware. i have tried burning an iso image and video/audio_ts folders every time i write it is at 4x or less. I just dont know why the disk wouldnt work at all i would understand if it was bad disk's and the quality came out bad but i get nothing.

Here's a link for the latest firmware for your drive:
http://www.plextor.com/english/support/downloads/firm_716.htm Firmware is like software that tells your drive what it can do, burns speeds, updates the brands of media your drive can burn to.
CompUSA does not use quality manufacturers - this can possibly lead to your burned disc not being recognized by your burner or your standalone. I have some dvd's done on crappy media that even though my drive burned them it no longer recognizes them.
Also Nero and Roxio can conflict with each other - imho I would keep Nero and dump Roxio.

Glad you got things working. Verbatim are denfitely the ones to buy in store especially the DataLifePlus. Online - Taiyo Yuden and verbatim from reputable stores like supermediastore.com, rima.com, meritline.com
Come back anytime someone's usually here to help.

I have a Plextor 716A and could not get CompUSA disks to work with it, you are better off sticking with Verbatim which is the recommended media for this burner, or Sony, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden. All of these media do well with this drive.

... CompUSA discs are made by either Princo or Optodisc ... Neither manufacturer could ever be accused of making an acceptable product ...

Agreed it is probably a poor quality media problem but you could try booktyping your dvd+r media to dvd-rom and see if that works.
