I don't know whether this goes in the newbies section or here. I have searched this site and I believe the answer is here but I don't quite understand, from what I've read how to figure out media. Specifically, I want to know if I have fake TY disks. The disks I have were what I think is called unbranded. I ran dvd identifier but I am not sure how to decipher whether these are real or fake. This is the reading I get:

Ask the mods to move this to the DVD-+media forum - you'll get more help there. I do see the id of TYG02 which are for the 8x TY's. The rest can't help you with - sorry.

Look for a code in the inner circle of the disc, should start TGxxxxxx

ALL genuine TYs have a code on the inner hub of the disc...

look for GG000xxx, GD000xxx, etc. (with the xxx being 3 numbers that are the BATCH of which they were made from the manufacturer)

TYG02s are some of THE most commonly faked TYs, so, i would be VERY weary of them..i have quite a few faked TYG02s myself~ let us know what the inner hub coding is (it's laser etched around the hub) :)

I think this is the code around the hub. I think I'm going to need a super powered magnifier.

I can't find a code that says TGxxxx

Does this mean they're fake TY?

Where did you buy them from? Hopefully not Ebay.
Online stores like: Supermediastore, Rima, Meritline, and NewEgg are reputable companies.
Hopefully Kivory666 will post back soon on your code- he's the TY expert.

Like kivory666 said GG000xxx is a good TY code. They should be the real deal.

Thanks so much. I'm relieved they are ok. I got them at a place called supermedia and they were called burnmaster.

@ppower

hahah..my TY radar has needed some fine tuning lately, hence my tardiness :)

@noname5

yes, those are genuine, while in the past i WANTED to try those burnmasters, allmediaoutlet was giving me a VERY hard time sending me samples, i paid for measly shipping less than $10 to have them send me 3 samples, never came through...so, i can't say i have had experience w/ the "burnmasters"; but, from an email i had w/ allmediaoutlet (who were the only online retailer at the time that were selling them), the customer service rep. stated something along the lines of them BEING AUTHENTIC TY, MADE IN JAPAN (which is a clear giveaway, FAKE TYS that i have are made in taiwan), BUT, they did not test as high as the Taiyo Yudens you would buy from other online retailers such as supermediastore, meritline, rima under the Taiyo Yuden label~ quality wise, you can take that at face-value as i do, it does not mean much to me, but YES, you got genuine TYs based on the inner coding which i will happily verify as being AUTHENTIC for all those non-believers out there, i'll put my "TY REPUTATION" on it~ :)

@binkie

thanks again for the vote of confidence~ you are so sweet~ :)
